I have my eyes on two amps:

HIFIMAN - EF-2A HEADPHONE AMP

and

Bravo Audio Ocean Mini Valve Class A

which of these two is the better one for driving the HD 600?

PRETTY PRETTY PLEASE, give me suggestions around the same price range. (100-180)

Sincerely,

A headphone Noob

And I actually have two choices.

300 dollars for the HD 600 (From A Friend) and 100-180 for an amp or

260 dollars for K701 (Amazon) and 150-220 for an amp

Thank You!

What do you listen to most? (You might want to fill out your profile.)

I've had good results with both K70x and HD6x0 using the O2 from JDS Labs.

I listen to Anime, Rock, Pop.... pretty much everything.

Light Anime most though

HD600 is fairly neutral but darker than the crisp K70x.

You might consider Grados too, specifically SR80i and 225i.

As a noob, how much experience do you have with tubes? Are you sure you like their sound? Because I've tried a number of tube amps on the HD600 and it sounds too dark with all of them; I haven't tried the really expensive tube amps, but from my experience, lower priced tube amps tend to have even more of that "tube sound" than the round-about way of getting neutral sound out of tubes by designing a complex and expensive amp.*

*For example, with speakers I like Cayin's authoritative and not too warm sound, but I can get a solid state amp with similar sound for less - the important thing is they are neutral enough to let the source shine through and drive the speakers well

What amp would you suggest then?

What's your budget? Portable or Desktop? IMO, almost all of the cheap tube amps are to be avoided.  The HD600's are far easier to drive than most people would have you believe, that doesn't mean any amp can do it. You need an amp that can deliver a modest amount of power at 300 Ohms. Unless you are planning to get a lower impedance set of cans that needs some measure of power, that would also place less demands on the amp that you would require. If you get a set of Ortho's in the near future, some measure of low impedance power might be required.

For the same price range as the ones you posted I'd look into the Modi or the O2.

The Schiit Modi is a DAC, perhaps you meant the Magni.

I'm also quite curious about the whole "DAC" thing. Do I need a dac as a newbie, or is it unnecessary?

I also am confused with the input system. What kind of cables should I buy if I want to input from a normal input source into the Magni?
