Having spent years trying to get the perfect analogue sound CDs came along. I resisted and then gave in and went through Quad and Meridian - I thought the sound was about as good as it gets in digital but then I heard my current stuff. As soon as I heard the Musical Fidelity A5 amp and CD player I loved them. They sounded analogue, in fact they sounded like better analogue than I even managed with vinyl. Really! - Musical Fidelity claimed it was the best CD player they had even made and I believe them. I don't expect you to agree but bear with me I am heading for a problem I need help with. This goes into BIG Monitor Audio reference Gold speakers.
Following a change in fortunes when my company went bust (thanks bank) i now live in small accommodation; I have enough sound to demolish the house let alone annoy the neighbours so I need some phones and an amp.
To complicate matters I have also a Sonos and a box to connect it to the HiFi. It's a wonderful piece of kit but its not like my A5 Cd player. i wish there was a way into the A5s DAC but I wouldn't know where to start.
So I need a headphone amp, and a DAC. - maybe some new phones too.
BUT I really want it to sound like the A5 - I think it is the valve that makes it sound so good and analogue to me.
I am so broke these days I can't afford to get it wrong.
What do you think I should do.
I guess I am looking to spend maybe up to £500 (I got stuff to sell) for the both and phones later.
