I've never compared them directly against each other. But the DT990 used to be the flagship headphone of Beyerdynamic.

If they've got great sounding bass and a more open soundstage...then they'll be a great option. I might end up getting a ZO3 if it's not over $120 upon release like the ZO2 is. Thanks for your help, I will definitely try these. :)

Before you buy, unless the difference in price is a hardship for you, I would still encourage you to look at the HE-400. If you search on Head-Fi, you'll find that the HE-400 seems to almost always win out over the DT990. For example, see these threads:

Once HiFiMan releases the updated model of the HE-400, that will probably the end of buying a version of these headphones for $300.

The reviews make me more comfortable with dropping $300 on these or the updated version, I'm not going to buy right away...it will probably be up to 4 months or so before I buy. Where can I find out more about the updated version?

These are listed as warm in the Basshead club, which is perfect for me. Thanks again for your help and patience. :)
