That said, I have no idea what magic Jerg has wrought, cannot wait to read about his work, since I am a believer in the ability to take the 560 from a very good HP, to a World beater.

I take it there was a stock version as comparison?

I did do a brief A/B comparison with his (then)unmodded stock HE560s vs mine, earlier last night before I modded his unit, and described it in a PM:

Before I started modding some hours ago, I did do some pre-modding comparison between my pair and yours, and it was as I had felt from previous comparisons, that stock HE560s with Focus pads are warm, with a slow / slightly boomy bass, and the distinct forward upper mids; this was especially obvious when A/B'd against my unit.

As for detailed comparisons, I didn't bother doing any because I just wanted to get the mod done and over with last night; most likely we'll see folks try my mod and then compare them to stock at their leisure.

Slow and boomy bass on a stock HE560?! Blasphemy!!

Boomy and slow definitely wasn't my thoughts when I had the 560 with me...
I've been out of this thread for a while... Any new mods or consensus changes lately?

Relatively, not on absolute terms :o

I may be posting my HE560 mod guide later today..depends on how much I want to format it.

I'd love to see that comparison! I currently have the HE-500 and I've been tempted by the Z7's reported comfort, light weight, and build quality.

I have yet to do any of Jerg's mods, other than the grill, so we are in the same boat. Since I have 10 thumbs it will be a challenge, But Jerg's explanations and pics are top rate, so looking forward to getting started.

Careful with those surgical scissors, big fella ;)

And a general word of caution from experience:  Be very careful when unscrewing the baffle from the cups.  One slip of that small screw driver, and it's bye bye diaphragm.  Don't drink a lot of coffee before attempt these mods.
