I guess Hifiman doesn't have a typical soundstage. =/

See this is why I posted 2 days ago that I didn't want to comment on soundstage, it is so subjective. To me HE400 is still decently wide but not deep enough.

without a doubt exactly what I was expecting to hear first in "a thoughts and impressions" thread for a nearly $1000 hifiman headphone. Of course it would be great if he could do five hundred dollars worth of extra musical magic to a headphone like the he500. Comes down to compromises and I'm not talking about money. But I believe that outcome will be on a different thread at a later date.. Cough there's a 4 involved

You won't!  not from this thread anyway.  ;)

Probably the fact that they haven't started shipping them out yet. But also those loose mounting rings were something wrong.

I'm sure your sarcasm is in good nature.

At any rate I don't think it's surprising that a sound signature that is very neutral, extended, not very lush, with fast transients and punchy bass can render instruments well (especially string instruments but percussion stuff as well). Vocals are more tricky and that's where I have my reservations with HE560, whether it renders vocals better than HE500 or not.

By the way Fang replied to me; they tried the older style (2 layer) baffles before, which worked great for bass, but hated how it masked the midrange. I'll let you guys know how things might go with regards to the baffles as the story develops.

I wasn't finished typing that. My wife came out of the shower in a towel. I don't know what happened to my tablet after that

And it is always in good nature!

This is the first high profile headphone launch I've been anticipating and I really like how they are doing it, reaching out to the community. To me, the achilles heel of planars has been their weight (including the HE-500) and I'm really happy they went ahead and addressed this, unlike Audeze did with the X and XC, which are the same designs. I'm still mildly interested in the Oppo PM-1's, but I was hoping they'd be doing something similar that we're seeing in this thread. Instead...silence on their end...

I might in about a week's time.

I'd take a slight bass roll-off instead of a masked midrange anyday!

It'd be cool if they did something similar like you to the single baffle setup then wink.gif But not if it means long delays ;/

Hi guys
I have a pair of HE500 and last week I bought a pair of HE6
The 500 didn't have much head time since
Should I consider the 560 if the weight don't matter to me?
Thanks

That's how I hear it as well. Same with the LCD2. Planars really excel in depth, not so much in width. The Alpha Dog is easily the best I've heard in width, bar none. Ironic seeing how it's closed. But man...it's super spacious.

Actually, Audeze went the other direction with the x and the xc. They are even heavier. Which truly baffles my mind honestly.

I've got the LCD x on loan, and man are they heavy indeed. Hurts the top of your head after a short time.
