Wood is not perfect. There may be a few rough spots but then you also know it is wood, (if there is a real issue I am sure Fang will see to it). I have a William Henry damascus with wood inlays. It is near perfect but not quite and I won't say how much the knife cost. You can mold plastic, not wood.

Yes, and wait until you hear the 560's. They are a bargain. You are getting top tier sound on the cutting edge, IMO. These phones have a wide but believable soundstage that images like crazy and gets the sound out of the head. Beautifully layered sound it is.

Well, having made multiple grado wood cups myself as well as other small-ish wood accessories, I know that it's very possible to iron out all rough spots with enough time, patience, and sandpaper. I don't think it's inconceivable that HiFiMAN intended the veneer to be completely smooth (it mostly is) but slipped up on QC on a few pieces.

So your pair has a few rough spots as well?

I worry a LOT more about rough spots in the sound than I do about rough spots in the trim/finish. Just sayin'...

Agreed, and the sound is spot on. That being said, I don't unreasonable to be a little nitpicky about aesthetics at this price point. The yoke scratching issue was one of the big reasons for the initial recall of Rev 1 after all.

yes, my pair is kind of rough in spots where the veneer meets the edge of the plastic.  that said, I didn't notice it visually and only checked it after hearing the recent comments.

I'm Jerg's landlord and let me tell you, his 560's sound fantastic.  I'll be listening until I have to put them back in the box and pretend I didn't open them;)

Think he'll notice if I substitute my Beats Pro and keep his 560s?

Just kidding of course - congrats on finally almost receiving them.
