the same?  I'm baffled! :D   Thanks, I'll be here all week and don't forget to tip the waitstaff.

BTW, mine are on the DHL truck and will be delivered today.

And to the person that asked about shipping numbers, yes, HFM will send this to you when your order ships.

The new pads on the production model have slightly larger openings with stiffer cushioning.  The swivel on the yokes is stiffer as well.

I don't care much for the braided cable.  I prefer the rubber one.

People might be curious how the pre-order model's pads sound on the new (final? never say never! haha ;-) version, and vice versa.  I wonder if the difference in perceived warmth is an acoustical thing vs. a tuning thing.  I know with my HE-500s pads really do make them sound different when switching between them.  In the end I don't suppose it matters, unless HFM were to offer the old pads (smaller openings) for purchase.  And that seems highly unlikely.

So, if you feel like doing that comparison, I'm still interested.  I find that pads with smaller openings tend to sound "warmer," so perhaps that's the case here.

Don't forget you're comparing a brand new unit to one that's been used for a month. The pads are worn off, the burn-in happened, etc.

I'd be disappointed if the mids were less warm than the pre-order, though. Let's give it few more days

I'm not a believer in burn-in.  If the mids are less warm on day 1 they'll most likely be less warm on day 7.

I'll only be listening to these for today and then I'll ship them off to Purrin for measurements.  He'll probably have a few words on how they sound and compare too.

I bet Purrin would have preferred them to be equally "burned in" tongue.gif

+1
My shipping notice was in the spam folder. The notice is from Hifiman directly, not head-direct (which I have in my contacts). The title was in Chinese, that's probably why it went to the spam (outlook is racist tongue.gif).

A colder midrange would indeed be a slight disappointment... Then again, the difference is supposedly pretty small.

Yea, I wonder how much of an difference switching the cables on both models would bring.

I think the bass, about the same, the mids, less warm but more clarity, the treble definitely more sparke/clarity.  I don't know what it is called, woodblock/cowbell?...but my first test track is from Mark Knopfler, On Every Street Album, track "You and You're Friend"....the drummer taps this to make a ticking sound (I'm not a musician, can someone help me with the terminology).  This is very distinct with the new 560, more defined, and can be nerve wracking for me.  Definitely more clarity from mids through the treble to my ears!

Here are my initial impressions on the new model:

1. I opened the box, and the aluminium case seemed to have a LOT of scratches... but it was just a protective plastic coating :-)

2. cable - The new fabric covered cable is nicer - more flexible. I don't notice any microphonics on the cable at all!  I think this cable is much better than the rubber coated cable that shipped with my pre-order version

3. Ear pads - new pads are perforated in the interior leather ring.  Feel just as comfortable as the pre-ordered version. The new pads seem to have more of an angle to them (not as angled as the Audeze, but more of a angled pad than the pre-order version)

I will take some pictures when I get home tonight.

On first listen I thought they may have a bit less bass than the pre-order versions...but as I listen to a few more songs, I am not sure. I have more listening to do before I can give a verdict.

AFAIK what they mentioned was more toward better internal coupling between the drivers and the cups, not between the drivers and the earpads. So whatever it is, you'd need to unscrew the earpad baffle, and pop the driver out to see.
