Forgive me if anyone has mentioned this before.

Hasn't been mentioned.

Not a fan of fabric sleeving, especially when it starts fraying. Strangely haven't had any issues with computer peripherals with sleeved cables though they seem to retain cable memory much longer than rubber sleeved cables. Some of the Tributaries audio interconnects I own have had issues with the plastic sleeving coming loose and fraying the ends that looked real ugly.. Required some creativity with a heat gun and heat shrink to fix.

But lets see what gets shipped. My HE-500 is in desperate need of a new cable. The current cable has turned into a terminal sickly green colour, I am sure its not helping the overly lush mids. :D Wouldn't mind trying out some HE-560 pads either if they will fit on the older models too. Hopefully I can convince somebody else locally to buy a HE-560 so I can demo it first! :p

Looks like they chose the darker color wood right?

Nope, that's the ebony instead of the teak from the looks of things.  Looks like school desk laminate.

But it's the darker finish I think.

Just FYI, all copper based cables green. You only can see it if it uses clear sleeves though.

I think that's true.  The only known treatment is to acquire more headphones :D

I should mention that HFM will basically let you demo them, given their return policy.  Assuming that policy remains in place when the HE-560s are out, that's an option.  If you don't like them, or feel they're worth all that $$$, return them.  If you decide to keep them, you can fund about half the cost by selling the HE-500s.  If the sound is different enough from the HE-500s, keep both.

e.g., here it is for the HE-500s (from head-direct.com)

Warranty Policy:
30 days refund: shipping cost is not refundable.
1  year replacement.
The cost to ship a product back to us for repair, replacement, refund, exchange or upgrade is the responsibility of the consumer. The cost to return the product to the consumer is the responsibility of Head Direct/HiFiman

Well I just sold my HE-6 in anticipation of the HE-560. I hope they come out soon!

The cable ... if that is the final version ... looks very good and miles ahead of the more recent cable versions that Hifiman has been using. Looks much more professional and complimentary of a world-class headphone (which Hifimans are). If you are worried about fraying you can be pro-active and heat-shrink the potential problem areas but I do not see the need for that, not to mention you would also lose out on the aesthetics.

Acquiring more headphones is at best just treating the symptoms or should I say feeding the disease.

Let's see, Thruston orders HE-560's. On day 31 he tells  Luvi, "Oh Schiit, I forgot to return them, damn I guess that I'll just have to keep them."

To be fair to Thurston, his calendar was made of coconuts.  You might be expected to have a better reminder system than him.  ;)

Are you stereotyping him? He brings diversity to Head-Fi. Keeps PETA off our backs.
