So, does anyone know if the Emotiva mini-x a-100 can drive the HE-6 well? It seems hard to believe a $220 amp can drive the HE-6.

-Earpads too small to me to be considered fully circumaural.  Could use bigger openings.  Don't understand the unnatural rectangle shape either.
-Sound signature very smooth and even; decent bass extension and treble clarity
-Something doesn't sound natural about lower midrange, it's not as clear and naturally warm as Hifiman or Audeze offerings
-Sound is claustrophobic and lacking in tangibility compared to Hifiman and Audeze models
-Sounds like mud, I think I rather take Mad Dogs-- at least their earpad openings are big

Ok... I think this should be in the oppo thread.

And it is in the Oppo thread, but it is also in the 560 thread because I'm directly comparing it to the 560.

I think it's plenty informative here as well. For some at least, me included.

Certainly. Not as well as a 500$/$1000 amp, but under 500 bucks, it's hard to beat. I really liked that pairing. A good DAC is still important of course,

I have an a-100 for my bedroom spkrs. I'd like to try it with the 560s. Can any one offer a good source for an adapter that goes from spkr terminals to 4-pin XLR?

I have to get over to the Oppo thread and see how all the fanboys are reacting to "sounds like mud"!

I finally received my pair after ordering a month ago and various delays. The numerous negative comments about being mid-fi and unflattering comparison to LCD2 nearly led me to cancel my order.

I have be using the HE-6 nearly exclusively for the past two years despite trying all other flagships.

All I will say is that I am really surprised by all the negative comments as it is a superb headphone. I only detected a slight tonal unbalance in the upper mids but imaging, treble and detail retrieval are all first class and very close to the HE-6. The mids are more pronounced, smoother and more detailed than the HE-6.

The Hifiman is more open and spacious and has better timbre.

My main disappointment is with comfort. The pads are small and my ears get quite warm quickly. I slightly prefer the roomy feeling of the Hifiman pads (Beyer DT990 pads  in fact) so far.

Did you use the Bakoon with the HE-6?
