That I am sincerely hoping for

So to my understanding the prototype vs retail version has been altered:
- (lower) midrange boosted
- some bass improvement (something?)
- treble brought down a bit
-> warmer headphone

I'll be totally fine with that if these three criteria are left unbroke:
1) air presence is not significantly reduced
2) the lower midrange boost does not cause significant colorations
3) does not significantly impair details (retrieval), dynamics or the headphone's neutral sonic presentation ( i.e - does not become warm, dark, veiled, etc.)

Well if they do void these, might as well cancel my preorder and wait for the 400i as that would be more or less what the 560 would become...

It's something I'd hate, HATE to do though frown.gif

If you end up disliking HE560, you'll hate 400i I think. The only design difference from prototype to v.1 retail is that the retail has better seal between the driver and the cup.

(lower) midrange boosted???  Are they trying to make it more like the HE-500?  Hope not!  Warmer Headphone?

If that happens I would return the HE-560 and wait for the PM-2!

It is nothing like the HE-500, don't worry.

It is a fuller and more refined HE-4, with a neutral frequency response.

I thought HFM only state that the bass will be better in term of extension. Where did you get the other info from? If it's not confirmed then don't ruin the expectation of people smily_headphones1.gif

I've got the preorder version, and I agree it is a more full, more refined HE-4, neutral freq response!!!

But if they do what conquerator2 says below, to the replacement they told me they would replace it with, I keeping my preorder version!

I never read such info from hifiman.

last time I checked, they confirmed they were working on two things that are not sound related:

- Designing new ear-pads for bigger ears.

- Improving the yoke system to remove the friction and prevent it from scratching the cups.

This is cosmetic/functional changes (that requires a process update - hence the delay), only.

From what I understood the final tuning was established after Jerg reported the baffle mod to Fang - which is what the pre-orders already have.

Then what the heck is conquerator2 saying.....he has made comments before that sound like he has a connection with Hifiman!

@jerg did post about HFM making a change to the sound, in addition to the earpads and yoke changes, but I think it was only for the bass response/impact.  He did not have specific info beyond what he posted.  I'll try to find it...

Will everyone stop with these crazy rumors next we will hear it sounds like the HD 650 I am sure that all the changes will be minor
post #2577 of 17297
Yeah, I am probably just freaking out... But that's something a prolonged wait can cause... I am still very hyped for them but some worries managed to get to me...
I guess it's all just a slight balancing act to make the headphone sound a tiny bit more neutral and HFM is doing just some quick final touches.
It's certainly nothing to worry about, thanks for shunning my dark thought.
So far it sounds like HE-6 with a bit more (lower) mids and bass and a bit less treble (on my setup)... That was my dream all along biggrin.gif (Mstage might also help but it also tames the hight a bit... Might have to roll them oppies ;P)

Oh and what I write here is 99% of the time stuff already posted by people like Jerg and others... It was you who poster about a slight retune, didn't you? (what ThurstonX posted and beyond)smily_headphones1.gif

In fact, all doubts ( the little of them) will be shunned when I finally hold the baby in my hands so... Come! biggrin.gif It'll be like Christmas ;P

More bass than HE-6??????

The bass of the 560 still hits soft though.  Hopefully it's some kind of baffle rigidity issue that can easily be fixed.

The baffle issue has been fixed. Maybe your perception of bass has been deviated by bass-heavy sound signatures?

I know for me the transition from my HE500s to the HE560s has been weird, mostly with regards to midrange; it sounded so dry initially, dry and sterile, but then my brain adjusted, and HE500's midrange sounds too wet to me now.
