I find that a proper seal is critical to the sub-bass control of these cans; the drivers seem to need a hermetic enclosure in order to properly produce low (<50 Hz) tones. Could be a peculiarity with the single-ended design.

Thanks for that review stjj89! I'm thinking about getting myself an Amperex 7308 too in the near future for my Project Ember. Which tube did you happen to like best with the HE-560?

HifiMan 400i/560 available for pre-order in France there. They are in Bordeaux as far as I know. They're pretty expensive though.

Thanks Elmo, didn't see that. No release date though, so that's not very useful for testing them at the moment.

Isn't Audiogarden.fr also selling Hifiman and Audeze?

Release date Germany:

Got this info of Sieviking Sound the German Hifiman importer.

The HE-560 is scheduled to start next week at the factory in Dongguan on the way to Hong Kong and then fly to us. I hope that everything works, because we are on the way to the High End in Munich on 13 May and if it eg should be a flight cancellation or problems with customs clearance, then the headphones would be only after the Mass in the delivery. In the worst case, there are therefore three weeks.

Definitely the Amperex 7308 that I got from Upscale Audio. Here's my brief impressions post from the Aune T1 thread:

The Amperex is definitely my favourite tube overall--best soundstage, clear extended highs, smooth mids and deep, impactful bass. The Rocket Logo had more bass impact and forward mids, but sacrificed too much soundstage for my liking. The 6H23N-EB was my least favorite tube out of these three as it sounded somewhat flat and only beat out the other two tubes in bass extension.

I'm actually thinking of getting a Project Ember as my next amp upgrade. I'd love to hear how the amp and this tube performs with the HE-560. Do let me know!

Awesome thanks! And yeah for sure, I'll post up impressions when I get them!

I've enjoyed all your impressions (and photos) of the HE-560 so far! It sounds like a headphone I would very much like, based on what you've all said. It sounds like it exhibits many of the qualities I loved in my old HE-5LE, yet with improved comfort. I was very tempted to pre-order one, but I actually managed to find an HE-5LE again for a fair price! In due time I hope to compare the two and share my own impressions; till then, I will enjoy my favorite headphone till the HE-560 establishes itself with greater surety.

I think this has been answered, but the HE-560 pads are going to be available for purchase, correct? And I should be able to use them with the HE-5LE if I so choose, correct?

That's why I import (almost) everything. A lot of the time, buying used (or even new!) and paying customs taxes is cheaper. Audiophonics also carries Audio-gd products, but again, $=€, so basically:

For a 600usd DAC brand new for example:

that's 430 euros + ~30% VAT/customs tax = ~560 euros.

The same product on Audiophonics still costs 40 euros more and there's no "options" like upgrades available.

Hopefully dealers in europe will realize how ridiculous this all is and adjust prices accordingly eventually. Till then, I'll be importing products.

It is hardly the dealer fault.

Of course it is. Look at Beyerdynamics. Americans (with prices in USD) get better prices on Beyerdynamics headphones than even Europeans do. Same goes for AKG, both manufacturers are in Europe. I've seen speakers made in France sell new in the USA for LESS than what they sell new in France.

Dealers get preferential prices on gear they order to sell in their stores. Ours are just greedier. ;)

For comparison's sake, taking amazon:

French amazon, Beyer T1: 700 euros (960usd)

http://www.amazon.fr/Beyerdynamic-T1-Casque-audio-HiFi-Stereo/dp/B0031RD3YY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1399283063&sr=8-1&keywords=beyerdynamic+t1

US Amazon, Beyer T1: 900usd

http://www.amazon.com/Beyerdynamic-T1-Audiofile-Stereo-Headphone/dp/B0031RD3YY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1399283080&sr=8-1&keywords=beyerdynamic+t1

French amazon, AKG K712: 400 euros (550usd)

http://www.amazon.fr/AKG-K712PRO-Casque-Monitoring-Professionnel/dp/B00DCXWXEI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1399283168&sr=8-1&keywords=akg+k712

US amazon, AKG K712: 380 usd

http://www.amazon.com/AKG-Pro-Audio-K712PRO-Headphones/dp/B00E4WXWBE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1399283174&sr=8-1&keywords=akg+k712

Beyers are made in Germany, AKG in Austria. Explain how Americans get European products cheaper than Europeans do, and Europeans get American products (such as Grado, Audeze to name a couple) at a 30% mark-up minimum?

I would save big time ordering the K712 on amazon US even with shipping + taxes, when the headphones are made in Austria.

I discussed this with the CEO of Beyerdynamic and their idea is still that 1€ = $1. I don't agree either but that's the case. The dealers have to follow the pricing from the producer. The US market is different.

On the other hand Philips products tend to be cheaper here than in the US.

On a side note, my HE-560 arrived. It's still in its closed box.

I doubt it considering the T1 is 700e in europe, 900usd in the US. Regardless of this, amazon is the same company (dealer), so prices shouldn't vary so much in the first place.
