Jerg, you should get that new Chesky album on the front page of Head-fi (use the 20% off code on Jude's post). There's both a bass beat and sweep test that goes all the way to 20hz and 27hz respectively. There's also an uncompressed drums dynamic range along with cymbals, sounds great on the HE4. Maybe test it out on the 560 and you'll have

I think I found the main inspiration for the new Hifiman headband design :p

Now granted the materials used and build quality is much better on HFM's new headband, but definitely tons of cues taken from the Omega headband.

Edit: an impromptu photo of the HE560 from approximate the same angle

To test low frequencies, instead of these static sweep files, a substantially more reliable and controllable method is to use tone generator programs. i.e. SineGen

The rise below 50 Hz with the HE500 plot is due to the jergpad mod, regular HE500 sub-bass is linear with a roll-off at the end. HE560's subbass is a lot tighter and lower in harmonic distortion, and as such even if it is linear (it very much could be), the perceived volume is less. Don't dwell too much on my MSpaint FR.

How is the leakage on the 560, jerg?

It's a nearly 100% air-damped driver, so the leakage is about as much as how loud the music is being played toward the ears.

If you want even more leakage, just do a regrilling mod! The more the leakage is, the better and more open the sound.

(**You might risk cosmetically scratching the wood cup if you attempt the regrilling mod on HE560 and are not careful, so only do it at your own discretion**)

How did they achieve the weight reduction? Is there only one magnet per side?

Did you click an ad or something? You should have gotten sinegen-setup.exe

One set of magnets per driver, instead of two. On top of that, the new headband is substantially lighter in weight.

I don't know how the high efficiency is achieved despite the single-ended design...maybe a significantly thinner diaphragm membrane?

No just downloaded it, it included twocows downloader and i even chose custom install and unchecked all the bloatware it wanted to install. Yes that's the correct filename it downloaded and it installed fine.

The sidebar thing shows 'related searches' after installation which wasn't there before.

Try a different source then... http://sinegen.en.lo4d.com/

Weird. I don't recall it trying to install bloatware when I installed SineGen in the past.

It is the first thing that pops up, some sort of toolbar but you just need to read what you're installing...

It says it right there and you can either accept or decline...

I used to be the accept everything guy... but then the bloatware trend kicked in and I learned to read :D

Not your fault Jerg! Thanks for the link!

People just need to reeeeeeeaaaaaaad...
