Assuming both sound signatures are pleasing to you the better fit in my opinion for those who like to listen to a wide variety of music from quiet, dynamic masters, to loud modern compressed recordings; if you tend to enjoy louder playback volume get the amp with more power. I'm not saying you need 4watts to enjoy the headphone, but more headroom is never bad so within reason find the sound signature you like, with as much power as you can reasonably afford.

+1, power=enhanced dynamics!

interesting side note on my research for upgrading my lyr 2 amplifier. a lot of the pricier amplifiers do not have as much power lol =S

hard to say what to look for specifically when shopping around.

I'm glad I go these though. They sounds pretty good with my V800/Lyr 2 combo. I had a bit of regret after buying them since I bought a pair of glasses last week or rather they robbed me. They came way too close to how much my HE-560 cost. I was going to get contacts too but after that price I didn't need them anymore.

If youre looking for good quality cables tahts pretty cheap - i suggest taking a look at http://www.bestintheversecables.com/ i am greatly wary about cables affecting sound quality. - especially if theyre all decently made.

Maybe differences will show on the highest summit setups..

I wonder if there has been any blind tests with cable swaps floating around

Very true, especially tube amps.

Yup..

I also like to add power = enhanced dynamics at lower volume levels.  Or the ability to produce very clear micro dynamics = subtle details in low passages or the ability to resolve small voltage swings.

And being able to stay clear / clean when the volume is turned way up and not distorting or beginning to sound muddied = I guess you can call this macro dynamics.

Power does not = how loud an amp can get.

Usually the word for it is 'headroom' at least for guitar and bass players it is.

Oh yup - that works.

Exactly, I know that having the headroom is sometimes treated with disdain around here, but it is important and that is why the harder to drive headphones can benefit from good, stable power. That isn't to say they will sound bad with less power, but without a doubt it is possible to under-power as well as over-power a headphone or speaker. I never understand why people get so worked up at the suggestion that more power can be good. It always turns into the debate that just enough is enough, which while mostly true, isn't the complete answer either in some cases, and the 560 seems to be that type of headphone.

Just wanted to make it clear that I am not suggesting extra headroom is always required nor do I suggest the effects are always readily apparent. I am just suggesting that there are times when the extra headroom is a positive, and likely to make an audible difference for some.

Looking for opinions on the 560 paired with the Asgard 2. I did a search and found a few impressions. Am I right to say that the Asgard 2 is okay but that the 560 will sound better with amps like the lyr2, mjo ect?

I wasn't super stoked when I had the Asgard2 with my 560, and I felt the 560 was more suited to the Yulong A18 myself. Would love to hear the 560 with a Lyr 2. I found the A2/560 combination a little brighter and thin than I liked, but perhaps had I given it more time than I did I might have grown to like it. Who knows, but I did love the A18/560 combination right away, as does the person I sold it to. In fact he has every flagship headphone I think and just the other day he told me he likes the A18 with his whole collection so high praise there.

I was in the same position, then I was pointed in the direction of the Project Polaris. After a few hours of research I pulled the trigger.

^^ Thanks, but I'm mostly looking for impressions of the pairing. I have the amp already. It seems that the power of the a2 may be a little lite to get the best from the 560.

Matt what about some of that vintage iron?  I'm sure that will do the trick.
