I am sorry but evaluating/comparing  two headphones shouldn't take more than 10mn, unless they both sound incredibly similar.

He said they sound not quite the same though :D

There is nothing to adjust. If it takes you more than 10mn to tell which headphone has more bass/treble/ details, extension or sounds more open you might have issue with your hearing faculties. I don't think anybody here expect a thesis just quick impressions, but those are not coming, and I know very well why. ;)

It takes me about 10 minutes to compare a pair of headphones in terms of sound after I adjust to them. Give the man (or woman) time, patience is a virtue. Rushed impressions are problematic. Especially when the new you effect kicks in (and it always does).

And this thread takes yet another turn towards ridiculous.

We should hand out cookies.

...there is a lot more to evaluating the complexity of a hp, especially expensive ones, than more, less or equal. If we all opted for your method of evaluation, there would be no headfi.

My review is on hold due to my HE-560 not functioning anymore.  They are in the process of replacing it.

I am sure you will get the new production model now. I am hoping to as well so I can finish my review. The ones I have here so far have been flawless.

+1 noone is asking for a full write up right away.

There are obvious differences especially in balance.

Seems like beta testing indeed!

That's disheartening news. Hopefully it's an isolated case, but nevertheless makes me nervous of preordering first run hifiman (speaking about the 400i in this case).

I've never regretted any early preorders with HiFiMan.  If anything, it's saved me money in early adopting whenever there was a preorder price discount.   I'll have to admit that HiFiMan QC is somewhat lacking, but they make up for it in their sound quality and excellent customer service.

Sure it would be great to have both high quality QC and Customer Service, but usually means very high prices.  If I had to pick one, I'd opt for Lesser QC with Greater Customer Service over Greater QC with Lesser Customer Service any day.

I have very bad luck when it comes to early adopting.  I guess that's why I'm a good tester (especially Beta testing).    So please don't ever take my bad luck experiences as being the norm.  Far from it, I'm just cursed when it comes to electronic toys.:confused_face_2:

I have no issue with Frank taking all the time he wants and I am myself in no hurry, honest impressions and comparisons from people who paid for the headphones will eventually appear.

What I object is lame excuses from reviewers who  fear to compromise themselves or the interests they represent.

So Frank, if you could only keep one headphone which one would it be?  :veryevil:

If Frank gives away the review here, it kind of defeats it's publication wherever he will be doing so.  Since he's reviewing for a web site and probably got the headphones for that reason, I completely understand why he would want to wait.  Or may need to wait based on whatever the terms of the vendors and site are.
