Also, when you were testing HM-700 with 8.A, I assume you were using balanced to unbalanced adapter?

It's not my review:o, I tried to make a quote but could not do it correctly when the quote was copied from another thread:confused:. Check out  00lunar  profile for more), and a thread  "Two new HifiMan players announced: HM700 and HM802" - he made a review of HM-802 too, if you are interested.  About the adapter - I think yes, it was used with the 8.A

Edit: I figured it out with a quote, yaaaay

Thanks! Looks like it is rather well received so far. I must say, since I already have a balanced HM801, I bought the HM700 more by curiosity and was going to sell it afterward but I have not been able to let it go yet.

The more I listen to it with the RE600 and the more I am impressed with the synergy and how plain enjoyable it is. I just forget about how it sounds and get immersed in the music for hours...

Thanks.

Not enough people now about the HM-700 IMO. It would sell a lot better if it was talked about more.

Not a problem!  Btw, really enjoyed your review, and thank you for mentioning my name in there about origin of picture source :)

I write a ton of reviews for androd communities (XDA: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192333 and mirror the same on AndroidForums: http://androidforums.com/android-accessories/796475-twister-reviews-android-accessories-gadgets.html).  Because I used a different name on XDA, post under "vectron", it confuses a lot of people who constantly message me that someone copies my reviews and they have seen the same kitchen granite top elsewhere lol!!!  Now, when they see my pics under a different name, I get pinged as well (recently a few ebay sellers were using my pictures in their listings).

Still enjoying my HM-700, but keep wishing they would have done an internal wiring to bring out standard unbalanced output as well for those who want to use other than RE400B.  HM-700 is clearly designed to capture a broader audience rather than just audiophiles, and I thought it would have benefited greatly if it could accommodate both balanced and unbalanced without external wire adapter.  Just my humble opinion.  I also hope maybe in a future updates they can add an option for lockscreen to use middle copper button as Play/Pause and  Left/Right buttons as skip Next/Prev.  Then, long press on middle button to wake the screen up, and long press on Left/Right buttons to change the volume.  It's only a firmware change, but could be so beneficial!!!

If I could choose two upgrades, they would be:

1. A lock switch on the side (red buttons are just too sensitive in a pocket and as a portable device, this functional flaw can be really frustrating to me)

2. A balanced/non balanced switch on the side (the TRRS to TRS adaptor really sucks for portable use, in fact mine is already defective and I have to send it back for servicing. Not sure if problem comes from the HM700 connection or the adaptor itself but the adaptor feels very flimsy)

Other than that, darn, the HM700-RE600 have conquered me!

I think in HM-701 they should add a second headphone output for unbalanced headphone connection.  Instead of doing external adapter, which we all agree is very flimsy, they can just route this connection internally to a second 3.5mm output.  I wouldn't even mind if that will make this DAP a bit longer.  I mean, it can probably be implemented with a switch and redesigned circuit, but if you want to keep it clean without changing the existing signal routing, this would be a very easy redesign.

Also agree about lock switch on the side! :)

Hifiman already implemented a balanced to non balanced switch on the HM901 so it probably doesn't compromise the signal enough to be audible... but I'll take a second mini-jack over the cable adaptor, that's for sure : )

dog meat, when my HM700 is fully charged, the battery meter gets framed with a white bar on top and one on the bottom, when plugged in.  The battery also holds up quite well, I use it for a full day of listening at the home office, and the meter goes down to about half way at the most, but I usually charge it up again next day.  I will try and wear it down and see how many hours I get, problem is I don't hear it continuously, so I'd have to add up the listening sessions until it dies.  I will report when I do this though.

Damn, no matter how long my device is connected to a pc - nothing shows up.

Also today had a strange bug, barely booted it up. Came into the office in the morning - turned the player off. After few hours decided to have a listen - turned it on - and player started to show the loading string with no reason (like always happens when you disconnect it from a pc after copying/deleting files on the player), the loading string freezed at 60% and refused to go on. I could not turn it off. I tried pushing the reset button with a needle - yay, player turned off - but when I tried to load it again - loading screen freezed again. Tried to connect it to the pc during the load screen - no access to the device. The problem was resolved only when I did the reset while connected to my workstation - at last I gained an access to the internal memory, deleted all the music library from it - and then HM-700 booted up. Phew. I already was seeing myself packing it with my beloved headphones and sending back to china for servicing... Guess I've got lucky this time

I had the same symptoms and it turned out the USB cable had a short.

While the HM700 is very solid, the USB cable has no grip to the connectors (ideal scenario for a short)

I will reinforce my replacement cable with superglue and shrink tubbing when I receive it.

Are you talking about the hybrid trrs - usb cable for unbalanced cans?

I'm talking about the actual USB to mini USB charging cable
