Sort of Survey Re' Interest in the Teac X-1000 Open reel/Reel-to-Reel Tape Deck

Okay, so I am fielding opinions, trying to decide if I will keep this baby, or maybe offer it in the FS section.

It's a NICE unit...but I listen to it far less often than I'd like; when I come home from work, mostly I just want to plop down inside the LCDs or Grados or whichever, just push a button and start listening.

RtoR is rewarding, but it's a bit of a fuss.

The thing is BIG.

As is appropriate for the very nice, no-noise motor in there.

And it's got all it's fully functional shiny goodness, glowing VU's...it's just COOL and sounds every bit as nice as you expect from direct, high quality recording. It's a VERY nice deck, was considered top of the game back then.

Before I waste the time and the forum's space to post it up in the FS, to take it off my rack and weigh it, figure out how to package it.... I thought it might be worth while to make a thread dedicated to opinions about this lovely deck, whether there would be any interest by folks in acquiring one, whether there are very many RtoR aficionados left out there.

People do still bid on them over at eBay.... but not all that often.

I figure, if there are people who will discuss this deck here, it might make the decision easier, and also maybe spark some interest and some great discussion.

Thanks for any help getting this thread rolling.

Hi I am a reel to reel guy and love it! Is this an x-1000r or the regular x-1000?

I know they are extra trouble, require lots of maintenance but I still love them. Your model probably weighs about 47-48 pounds. Has it been reconditioned recently by a proper technician ? Is it black or silver? Love to see pics if you are interested in selling.

This is the regular x-1000.

It hasn't been reconditioned.

It's the black with the silver face.

Part of the reason for the thread is that I MIGHT be interested in selling.

As mentioned above, I'm trying to weigh the pros vs. the cons of doing that.

It still plays well and I do like the way it sounds, and like you, I love it.

But it's not getting used as much as it deserves, and it's occupying space that simply could be put to better use.

And maybe I was hoping that a thread about this, with some discussing back and forth would either spark my interest in toying with it some more....or not, in which case it DEFINITELY needs to go to a more loving home than mine.
