Own Sure SRH440 - love the sound, hate the comfort: Recommendations?

Thread Starter

I own a pair of Sure SRH440 headphones and as the title says, I LOVE the sound.  But I like to wear them while I work on the computer and after a hour or so they are killing me. They hurt the top of my head (too heavy) and they hurt my ears after a while, too.

A while back I found a thread that detailed how to take them apart and make them lighter / more comfortable but it sounded kind of difficult. So I ended up just not wearing them.... now a year later I'm doing some computer work again and I want to listen to music.

Are there any other headphone in this price range that sound similar but are more comfortable? (Open-backed not really feasible.)

Is the modification not really that difficult? Does it really make they that much more comfortable?

It's such a shame, I love the sound.

At least three guys have modded SRH440 or 840. Ask one of them. I've seen several sets of photos and it looks pretty easy to me. I think it would take a weekend. One day to go to a craft store and get started, and one day to finish up. If you like your 440 that much, just mod it.

While it might not be enough for you, replacing the 440 pads with 840 pads did the trick for me and many others.

I never tried that though it's a common enough mod. I did see one reviewer here however who thought it changed the sound for the worse. (There's always one.)

You could buy the srh 840. heard these are more comfortable than the 440.

I don't own one , but going to pick one next week.

They're even more uncomfortable, so you might want to look at photos of the mod.
