RATE THE LAST BOOK YOU READ

Thread Starter

Here is a list of all the books that i have read in the last 4 years. The list only goes back 4 years because that's when i started keeping track of the stuff that I was getting through.

The marking scheme will be in marks of  (1-10) (1.1 - 9.9) - I hope that makes sense.

 A word on ranking

I am a very harsh marker, I will very rarely give a book more than 8.5. Nothing will get a 10

For anyone who doesn't want to read the list of nearly 300 books here is a top ten¬

  1. Leo Tolstoy - war and peace                    9.8
  2. J.M Coetzee - disgrace                              9.8
  3. Cormac Mccarthy - all the pretty horses  9.7
  4. Simon Singh - fermats last thereom         9.7
  5. Hillary Mantel - bring up the bodies         9.6
  6. Johnathon Franzen - freedom                  9.6
  7. J.R.R Tolkien - fellowship of the ring       9.5
  8. Cormac Mccarthy - the road                      9.4
  9. Cormac Mccarthy - child of god                9.3
  10. Marios Vargos Lylosa - feast of the goat  9.2

Anyway here is the list, in the order i wrote them down, sometimes i will read several books and then take note and forget what order they were in - which is why some author's have 3 or 4 titles in a row - also i lost the list twice, once in Australia (2011) and another time in London (2011) , so i  had to make another one by memory. Most of them i could remember and some of the others were in my local libraries history. I reckon there are probably 6 or 7 that i cant remember reading. ¬

Holy crap.

You read a lot. And how do you accurately rate all of these books from memory?

I don't have much time to read, so I'll rate the handful of books I've managed to read the past two years. It won't be very detailed, just a simple scale from 1-5 of my personal enjoyment.

Baldwin - Giovanni's Room 5/5

Silko - Ceremony 5/5

Sacks - An Anthropologist on Mars 4/5

Ratner - In the Shadow of the Banyan 4/5

Fitzgerald - The Great Gatsby 4/5

Bryson - A Walk in the Woods 3/5

Krakauer - Into the Wild 3/5

Szpilman - The Pianist 3/5

Werther - Autobiography of an Androgyne 3/5

Also, you forgot to write down Life of Pi next to Yann Martel. :D Great book.

I don't watch TV - don't even have one in the house, hate the things! I keep a list, I go over it regularly. There are usually only a very few that stick out from year to year. I mean most of them are good like 7/10's. few of them are truly great. I have read "the great gatsby" its also on the list - a very good read. i will give "giovanni's room" and "ceremony" a go since you rate them so highly.

thanks for posting :beerchug:....... another 2 to add to my reading list.

He is a very active writer come to think of it. I look forward to seeing the new book's percentage completion on his website. Its cool the way he does that. I don't think i have heard of anyone else who works that way
