If you can choice between the Asian version of the S5 or the EU/US, which one you would order for audio listening ?

For me the DAC implementation is not everything, at the moment all phones are missing a good headphone amp, this is why I allways try to use quality software DSP (V4A at the moment) to compensate this fact and find an acceptable signature for my IEM and my audio preferences.

Edit : I also care about the output impedance, that is less than 1 ohm for the Note2.

Isn't there the international version that has the wolfson DAC?

At the moment no, maybe later the Octa core Exynos CPU version equipped with the Wolfson DAC will be available internationally.

Z2, no brainer...

Why?

1. Works with 24/192 files without the need of installing third party apps.

2. FLAC and soon FLAC support for stock Walkman App.

3. You can use to host an external DAC/Amp and can charge simultaneosly via dock port.

Would you happen to know which version Canada has?I asked someone who works at my carrier and they have no clue.

@Nirvana I'm not sure for Canada, it's probably the Snapdragon version as for me in Switzerland, as I read for the moment it's only available in Asia ...

For S5 LTE Qualcomm, both 1 & 2 also work out of the box.

3 you can use ext DAC from microuusb but no charge

Point one above is only good if you know that Sony's software is equal to, or better than third party solutions, else doesn't really mean anything...

The Note 3 can do it out of the box but ultimately doesn't sound that good...

Well yesterday I went to a store with my Atrio IEMs and listened to both the Galaxy S5 and iPhone 5S.The iPhone sounded very good with good detail. But the S5 had a more of a warm full dynamic sound with better bass.I'm going to check out the Sony Z2 and HTC One M8 later this week.

Wrong. The Xperia Z2 has the better screen.

Explain to me, what exactly on teh S5 screen is better? The colors pop so nice?

The best display is the one, which has the best color accuracy, viewing angles, and color temperature.

The S5 Display has a perfect black, a nice minimum-brightness, and good viewing angles.

The Color temperature is too high (too blueish), the saturation is way too much (the colors are all NOT natural). Even the Cinema mode is too oversaturated.

Xperia Z2 has a better color temperatuer, more natural saturation.

If you are objectice, you can not possibly say, the S5 has the best Display on the market. Thats like saying basshead headphones are the best headphones on the market.

If you like poppy colors from amoleds fine. But dont say its the best Display, because its clearly not.

Check this: http://www.phonearena.com/reviews/Screen-comparison-Galaxy-S5-vs-iPhone-5s-vs-One-M8-vs-Note-3-vs-Nexus-5-vs-G2_id3652

Just from the Panel.. The iPhone 5s has a much better Panel Quality compared to the Galaxy S5 (outisde of the resolution).

Better Color temperature, better calibration, better viewing angles

If you like the S5 display the most, thats just personal preference, and not objective fact.

Just exactly, as you like bassy headphones more than neutral/natural ones.

The S5 has a greatly improved screen from previous AMOLED efforts.  It had the obvious lead over LCDs in pure black which makes the contrast obviously better, response rates are also higher, reflectivity is also lower.  Depends how you want to rate different screen tech, for me I won't be using it for Adobe work so I can just enjoy the vivid colors and adjust if I need to.  Even the battery drain on the S5 has been greatly reduced from previous models.  I don't have anything to not like on the S5 screen compared to Z2 and personally I rate it better based on my criteria of what I use the phone for.

If color accuracy is your only requirement then you may argue against, just my 2 cents.

Exactly. Its just personal preference.

So for me theres a difference in "this is the best display" and "this display is the best for me"

Also an indication for Displaymate, which also said the S5 display has a perfekt color accuracy, which is a lie.

How can it be perfect when it even falls short in color gamut? smily_headphones1.gif

It's a mobile phone, you can argue for a wide gamut display but I don't believe Android can use that properly similar to windows, unless a specific app supports it you'll see oversaturated colors.  It's a mobile device, focus on those properties rhat are most important in such a device, color accuracy is only one of them.  There is no perfect display they all have strengths/weaknesses.  Consider true blacks, response times, contrast, viewing angles, sunlight legibility, power draw, brightness etc.

Once you factor all those in then the S5 display can be considered 'best' for what is on the market.

I have similar issues with computer monitors, I would like a 120hz, 1ms response rate, 178 degree viewing angle, 32 bit color, 100% gamut, 4k display butno current technologies can satisfy all this.

Depends which of those specs you weight how much.

For me, color accuracy is MUCH more important than viewing anlges to 170° instead 150°.

I mean srsly, NOONE is watching a display from 170° degree.

While Color accuracy is pretty much the most important thing. A Displays Task is, to display colors and shapes. And so it should do this in the most correct way. There is no reason why a Display should lie to me, and show me an 100% green, where should be only a 70% green.

If you go by those specs, and say which one fulfills the most of them mostly good... The iPHone 5s display is MUCH better than the Galaxy S5 display: http://www.phonearena.com/reviews/Screen-comparison-Galaxy-S5-vs-iPhone-5s-vs-One-M8-vs-Note-3-vs-Nexus-5-vs-G2_id3652

While the iPhone 5s display has only good-excellent, the S5 display has 2 average and 1 Poor.

So theres absolutely no way someone objective could consider this beeing the best display on the market.

You can like it the most yes. But measurements have nothing to do with opinions.

So... i can really agree, that its a good display, and can please alot. But its not the best no matter how you look at it.
