galaxy s5 vs sony z2 in audio capabilities? - Page 2

Thanks for the info guys. I am now pretty sure I'll be buying the SGS5 :)

It was between the GS5 and Z2 for me.But these specs sealed the deal for the Galaxy S5.

The Z2 DAC is the same as the SGS5 Snapdragon Vers.
Plus, Z2 has the "Hi Res Audio via USB" function which allows use any USB DAC directly, without the need to use USB Audio Player Pro.
And is overall better. Better Camera, better screen...
For me Z2 wins.

Better screen ha ha
S5 has the best screen on any phone at the moment, and Display Mate proved that, they are specialist s.
AMOLED for me all the time.

Indeed, the S5 has the better screen.

Regarding DACs, the Z2 only wins out there if you want 24-bit audio, otherwise the S5 will sport basically the same compatibility with many portable DACs as the Z2.

No particular opinion on either to be honest, but lets not go around saying the Z2 has the better screen, that particular differentiator goes to the S5.

Are you SURE it is the better screen?

The amount of phones I've had, one thing I can say is that AMOLED may be good on a scientists bench but SLCD (IPS) has more natural color, oh and life expectancy smily_headphones1.gif

Note 3 vs HTC One M8, current example right here right now, Note 3 has annoyingly green tinge to color, looks unnatural frown.gif

Quite sure, yes. That is providing the S5 is set to film mode in display options. The Z2 suffers badly from high reflectance and poor sunlight visibility, in addition to having viewing angles not on a par with either the S5 (or even it's LCD competitors). The S5 screen on film mode has gloriously accurate colours.

As I read, the Octo Exynos Galaxy S5 with the latest Wolfson DAC will be only available for the Asian market :(

I keep for the moment my lovely V4A Wolfson Note2, but I need a new LTE phone for my new ilimited 4G subscription, I also want the best DAC/HO possible before changing ;)

Frankly, so what?

The implementation is everything, and the S3 and Note 2 weren't particularly great despite their Wolfson's until you Rooted your phone and installed custom kernels and such like.

Same for me apart from having different iem's. I'm auditioning some other daps that i've ordered but I don't have high hopes that they'll sound any better than my note 3

True but it's not that much trouble to root etc and the results are well worth it

@NZ For me is good to have the better DAC possible before rooting the phone and using it with quality DSP

If you can choice between the Asian version of the S5 or the EU/US, which one you would order for audio listening ?

For me the DAC implementation is not everything, at the moment all phones are missing a good headphone amp, this is why I allways try to use quality software DSP (V4A at the moment) to compensate this fact and find an acceptable signature for my IEM and my audio preferences.

Edit : I also care about the output impedance, that is less than 1 ohm for the Note2.

For people who do not want to root a new phone, the Z2 can have better arguments with these Sony DSP : ClearAudio+, Clear Stereo, Clear Bass, and Clear Phase.

I haven't heard the sony dsp effects for many years but I do remember enjoying them on older sony products. I'd be interested to see how they compare to viper4 android. I am getting a Zx 1 and may decide to root it and experiment.

Ew amoled... if you like oversatured colors, blotchey, blotchy blacks in the dark, pixel sharing (pentile).

Never another pentile screen for me.

I'll bet that they both hiss for music, I can imagine the samsung being worse. My S3 was horrible.
