I understand that. There has been more tiny houses being made for people living in expensive real estate areas.  However I like the sleeping area to be small and only used for sleeping. I like to be wide awake and sometimes dancing to the music. I can usually put shelves in a room to use the space better.

As a person who can't sleep well and who's rest come mostly from closing eyes only, it's sometimes, really hard to get through the night without music T.T

Locate this post on the last day before the suggestion is closed. Here is my wish list,
- 3.5mm audio in and 3.5mm headphone out
- gain switch to handle my different headphones
- nice USB cable to connect from my iPhone to the unit
Actually, my wish list is very short when compare to the other guys.
Oh, someone did mention battery charging function, is that really possible?

Hi,

Burr-Brown = done deal. Dual-Core configuration in the micro iDSD. This is the heart of the digital engine in the micro iDSD.

Good to know! I must have overlooked it

Hi!
Personally I don't find the volume control located near the headphone jack convenient. Is it possible to place the volume control a little away from the jack? If it is, iDSD will become much more handy. Thanks.

i don't know if i'm the target market for the micro. it sits in that somewhat uncomfortable space of being neither a truly portable device but not really a desktop DAC substitute, either.

a portable device, like the nano, is small, runs on battery/bus power, and has the ability to be a DAC and amp. it connects to a portable source like a laptop or i-Device. that's what i use it for. i don't need/want USB->SPDIF conversion, etc.

a desktop device, like the mini iDSD that will come out later this year, should have a plethora of inputs, outputs, a really good power supply, and a number of other features that might be useful to the consumer like bluetooth connectivity, preamp capabilities, etc.

as i read through all these posts, it seems that the micro is different things to different people - some see it as a portable device, some see it as a desktop device, and others see it as both. because it's not one thing, it's difficult to pinpoint who the target audience is and what features should therefore make it into the device. i think it will, in the end, be a very well done device. but i wonder if it will be disappointing. disappointing because it won't have this or that for the portable user, or it won't have x, y, and z for the desktop user. sitting in the middle is often hard because you're trying to cater to both sides...and it will be interesting to see what compromises iFi will make to appease both the portable fan and the desktop fan.

i appreciate very much the communication and this process iFi has allowed us to partake in - it's fun discussing a new product and learning from experts in the field. i look forward to seeing what the final product will be...

for me it would be a desktop device that I can use at home and bring to work. I think size wise its perfect for desktop and it can be combined with other devices from the micro line (if i get my hands on the iDSD micro i will definitely consider an iUSB with the ifi dual USB cable. I understand that other user have different preferences.

IMO 6.3mm jack would be a better choice, we just have to plug in a 3.5mm to 6.3mm jack if needed. I understand that there are too, some 6.3mm jack to 3.5mm jack adapter but that would be bulkier? idk

This comes back to the portable versus desktop issue.

I guess some people will use the iDSD micro in an office where they might also use high-end headphones that come only with a 6.3mm plug. Then again, if one is going to the expense of using a high-end headphone in that situation, wouldn't one also want to use an iCAN to make the most of it?

I have trouble envisaging people on buses and trains wearing high-end headphones (with 6.3mm plugs) that make them look like cybermen. Wouldn't they choose something more portable for that application, something which would by design have a 3.5mm plug?

As for the 3.5mm audio in, perhaps the poster missed the bit about the iDSD being a D-A-C

Chris, ifi micro series devices look like this:

iFi_iDAC_DA_konverter.jpg
TopAudio.JPG
b_570_0_16777215_0.jpg
etc.

The iDSD micro will have the same form factor as the other micro series components

BTW, you were most of the way there with your images. Just enclose the URLs with image tags:

and they will appear in your post. The only constraint is that the URL must point directly to an image file, in other words it must end in '.jpg' or '.bmp' or '.png'. Yours all end in '.jpg' so they are fine.

Alternately you can click the picture button. It's the 5th one from the right hand side and looks like a picture of a mountain range with the sun in the sky. Just paste your URL into the dialog window and click 'Use URL'.

latest update: (updated on page 1 also)

Okay. A huge Thanks to you ALL from us here at iFi. We have been touched by your efforts and feedback on the nano, micro and mini! (even though we only expected the micro)

We have already emailed/PM'd you to reconcile those who have emailed/posted on Head-Fi or messaged us on FaceBook.

We will try our best to count all contributions up and announce later today or early tomorrow.

A few of us have been charged with solely this task today - we thank you for your participation.

We have a small surprise coming as the close of the design inputs is only Phase 1.

Phase 2 is coming and if you weren't one of the winners, then you may still have the chance to win an iFi product!

Keep watching this space!

Here is thought - not about the micro iDSD itself per se but to one of iFi's accessory. The 6.3mm to 3.5mm adapter that included with current micro and nano iCAN is pretty much the standard design. While it work just fine for a desktop setup, it does seem to be quite protruding on nano iDSD, especially with headphone that has right-angled 3.5mm plug. My suggestion is to have an adapter that will not protrude quite as much. It should be do-able - just take a screw-on type of 6.3mm to 3.5mm adapter, remove the 'nut' section and replace with a small stopper ring, and you'll have an adapter that will sit very flat to the jack.
