reposting to coincide with the worldwide launch of the micro idsd. here are some unboxing pics...

so i got this in the mail yesterday. what could it be?? (yes, this is how the package from avatar acoustics arrived...and yes, it was very well packaged)

why, it's something from iFi. hmmm...

top secret? what could it be?

aah, right. the shirt. feels very japanesey. the graphics, that is...little big on me, but maybe one cycle through the wash and drier will make it work.

now, what's inside this box?

all the cables, adapters, etc. that you would need to connect it to your devices. very nicely done, ifi.

as is the case with ifi's other products, packaging is very neat and tidy.

golden ticket!!

the "golden ticket" is a nice homage to willy wonka and the chocolate factory. i really do feel like i won something pretty amazing. thank you iFi!! and thank you bonnie at @AvatarAcoustics for shipping this 5000 miles away in record speed. awesome.

and yes, the blue light just turned off and i am now enjoying this "meaty monster" with my th900s...impressions to follow soon.

iFi guys,

You said previously that in battery mode it will go into a charging standby if the computer hibernates but the port still stays hot. So my test setup right now includes the iUSB Power, so that provides 5V at all times equivalent to a hot port. When the iDSD goes into standby the LED goes green and eventually starts flashing. Will the battery charge if it can draw power in this standby mode? Does the LED remain flashing green when charging?  (I ask because I was expecting it to go blue, like it does if turned off and charging, but this doesn't seem to be the case.)

On both my nano and micro the green stays a solid green 24bit 44k because it was the last sync from my computer when my computer is powered down with the iDSD turned on and on USB power mode. A  flashing green means no signal just like if I disconnect the USB cable.  It did not go blue because you still in USB power mode on the micro.

On the micro if I am on battery power it will be a steady white until it gets a signal to reclock. That part did confused me a bit.  I would recheck and see if the iUSB  Power will stay on when the  computer is in hibernate mode. It may be helpful if IFI will also clear this up since I am not using iUSB Power. Also on the micro if you are on battery power mode with no signal it will turn off after a period of time even when still connected to the computer with power.

I am still not entirely clear on this. I force my micro into battery mode and turn it off  and it looks like the battery needs more charging, blue again.

found the answer to my last question:

If unit is powered on, battery is only charged to 4.05V, to max battery life ( >3 Years for 70% capacitance). This is best option.
- If unit is turned off, battery is charged to 4.2v or 100%, for cyclic use (ready for portable use).

Hi

Still waiting to get my hands on mine... the french retailer just said to me that the parcel has been sent to them but no ETA provided yet :frowning2:
Do you have any info to give me? Did you give priority to certain regions (US & japan)?
I'm getting more and more jealous reading the first unpackings/reviews...

thanks

Long answer

SmartPower just drew this table up:

Mode
Charging
LED turns Blue when Charging
USB Power
Yes
No
Battery Power (Normal)
No
-
Battery Power (Power Save)
Yes*
Yes
Off
Yes
Yes
*Only if it is connected to a computer or charger.

In case you didn't tune into ITV last week, SmartPower won £1 million on "Who Wants to be a Millionaire."

I received my Micro-iDSD last night.  I haven't had a chance to use it yet but the rubber mat found in the box is a (super) nice touch.  Kudos to iFi-Audio for really thinking this product through!
