RED HOT = their guesses are very close to what the OTW feature #3!

When guess, you have cold, warm, warmer and then RED HOT!

My guesses in no particular order:
1.) usb 3 connection. Works with lightning idevices (through cck).
2.) does not draw power from usb so it plays nicely with idevices. Actually charges your idevice while connected.
3.) 2x input circuitry one handles dsd and another pcm.
4.) 2x dacs one hi-res another redbook like in the amr dp777. Please do this, i'm a fan of ye olde dac chips. Some 44.1/16 only dacs are among the finest i've heard.
5.) tube output stage.

I seriously doubt i'm right, because unless they've managed to invent some kind of space-time folding technology they're going to have a hard time fitting all that into the micro box...

Hi,

Tube not going to happen. Neither is galvanic isolation.

The square footage is simply not there.

your probably are going to implement features that are so new and unheard off that its impossible to guess what they might be because we simply don't now of their existence... long sentence, deep breath...

Super Duper Features 1.2.

Different Strokes for Different Folks (Filters for different formats)

Background

Ringing (in electronics):  "artefacts" that appear as spurious signals ("rings") near sharp transitions (transients) in a signal.

Visually, they appear as "rings" near edges; audibly, they appear as "echos" near transients

BEFORE the transient = Pre-Ringing

AFTER the transient = Post-Ringing.

"Ringing" arises in recordings and DAC chipsets. There is a wealth of information on the Net.

Technical Explanation

In the micro iDSD, when playing back PCM and DSD it has the following filters that reduce/eliminate such types of ringing:

DSD: Extreme/Extended/Standard filters

PCM: Bit-Prefect/Minimum-Phase/Standard filters

DXD: Bit-Perfect

Further, from our point of view, measurements and listening are not necessarily identical.

Generally, we recommend "Standard" for measurements (such as when hooked-up to test equipment) and the other filters for listening. But always try them out, on-the-fly.

Filters will be discussed more in-depth in a future Software Team's Notes.

How this benefits the listener

Audio is ultimately subjective. Hence we always try offer customer options to adjust the sound to suit what they like and the headphones speakers of choice.

The different filters come with our recommendations under each format but there is no such thing as "best" and we leave the customer to make the "last mile" selection.

Where applicable, we recommend trying Bit-Perfect first: for listening, at AMR/iFi this is what we use most.

We could simply list out the features...but if it hasnt been conveyed officially, we do appreciate the participation by all H'Fiyers on this Crowd-Design thread and the other threads too. So don't be put off.

All of your comments gives us an extra boost and reading your jovial posts gives us a break from the monotony of daily work stuff.

Thanks again from all the iFi team.

I love checking this thread morning and seeing more updates from the iFi audio team.  I like to imagine that all companies do this kind of stuff for us customers.  It's so much fun!

Are the dual DACs going to allow for a balanced output?

Me too, I check this thread daily. I don't know how I can manage another month waiting for the final product... The excitement is unbearable.

Most of me want selectable filters, but for some reason it kindda feels "wrong" to choose differently from the guys who made the dac. I'm on filter4 on my pwd2 but my ocd keeps telling me the i SHOULD have it in "auto" (which i think is something like 1 and 3 depending on bit rate). Nice of you to not number them on the iDSD otherwise i'd suffer the same from two dacs!

I also look forward to checking this thread every day. I think it's pretty cool how responsive and interactive iFi is to the community. Tired of companies that promise updates, but then you don't hear from them for weeks. I'm not asking for play-by-play updates, and I completely understand that surprises can pop up in product development, but that doesn't mean you need to have complete radio silence either.

Reasons why I like reading this thread;
- iFi never stop giving new information and the new surprises biggrin.gif
- I like how iFi-Audio repeatly improving their products. Not only listening to our feedback which most company does but also applying and improving everything in their products AND that's something special!
- Friendly iFi teams and the hint makes me extra curious xD

With all these reason, you feel more comfortable reading it unlike some other thread and I/we feel more comfortable suggesting new features or any feedback to this thread because iFi will actually acknowledge it instead of just listening. Some company even ignored it frown.gif so THUMBS UP IFI.

they're ramping up towards the announcement and debut of the micro in a very nice way - giving us just enough information but not keeping us entirely in the dark. sort of the right mix of openness and secrecy...well played, iFi.
