Opinion wanted headphones for travel - Looked at Beyerdynamic Custom Pro One

Thread Starter

I am not a headphone at home type.

I have had a set of mid range Shure IEM to use with my IPoD for travel for years. Love the sound. So So on the comfort. They broke.

I travel frequently and want new phones for travel.

Source - IPoD Classic (no headphone amp)

Music taste - Everything, but heavy metal and rap.

Sound Quality Desired - Dynamics, good bass, smooth top end

Headphone history -

A long time ago - Audio Technica ATH7 electric condensers (not for travel)  - loved the top end - bass shy.

Shure IEMs - great sound as long as you get a good seal -long term comfort was an issue.

I am thinking about going to full size phones. It would be nice if they folded, but not a must.

I had some extra time at an airport recently and auditioned (with my IPoD):

Audio Technica ATH M50s

Beyerdynamic Custom Pro Ones

Synheiser HD 558 (I think this was the model)

I thought the Custom Pros sounded best. The audition was too short to judge long term comfort.

Looking for some experienced input on the best phones for me. Looking to spend $100 - 160. Closed back have an advantage for travel. Less disturb the neighbor issues.

For travel they are great. The comfort is just phenomenal. I think the mids are a little bit recessed but it is not a deal breaker. It is very easy to listen to them for hours and hours without fatigue or discomfort. But during summer especially if you wear them outdoors, your ears will be boiling.

For frequent traveling, iem's just make the most sense. Vsonic just announced new stock on the gr07mkii bass edition. This is not a bass head iem, but has a slight sub bass tilt that I think you're looking for. Just a great all rounder and right in your budget. Sounds great from a sansa clip and fantastic from something like the dx50.

gL!!
