Recommendations for Good DAC and Amp for Sennheiser HD650

Hello.

I recently decided to go ahead and purchase some headphones, after browsing for a week I've decided that I'll get the Sennheiser HD650 i was so close to buying the product without knowing that I do not get my moneys worth for these headphones without purchasing a DAC and AMP. I'm no audiophile i am just an enthusiast and i like to have quality and if I am to buy quality headphones i want to maximize its performance.

the problem is I have next to no knowledge about DAC and AMPs and I was wondering if anyone could help me. I dont want to just buy DAC and Amp just to find out its not the right one. I would really appreciate it if you could suggest to me a good DAC/AMP for the Sennheiser HD650 without having to go over board with the price (£200-300 budget "i know it's low) as well as educate me how these function.

Thank you,

John

First a few things to consider.

1. Scale. The 650's tend of sound better scale up nicely and will sound better and "scale" the better than amp and dac.

2. What kind of music do you listen to. This would effect the suggestion that you get here.

3. I have had the 650's for about three years and have heard them on lots of amps.

The Asgard 2 is a really good amp and versatile with the gain switch and preamp. It delivers a clean neutral sound and pairs well with the 650 ($250)

The Schiit lyr will give you more dynamics and punch and offer the ability to tailor the sound with tubes ($450)

And then their is my personal favorite, the Bottlehead Crack ($279 speedball upgrade adds about $115). This amp is simply the perfect match for the 650 IMO. What you'll get is a incredible sense of lifelike sound that is striking, jawdroping even. It comes in a DIY kits which is not for everyone. You can get someone to build it for you if you don't have the skills.

gL!!

I listen to pretty much any genre of music but I tend to like to have a bit more bass than usual as I am a bass guitar player and just enjoy hearing it.

As i was looking around the forum it seems to be that the Asgard 2 is the preferred Amp and I too have looked into it and considering buying it, but i don't know which DAC to get.

I have two dac suggestions.

On a budget, I'd get the odac with RCA's for about $150. If you have more money, then I like the bifrost from Schiit.
