A900X or the ATH-AG1 (A700x with a mic)?

Hi everyone! I'm looking to buy either a A900X or the new ATH-AG1 which is just an A700X with improved wing system and built in mic. Both cost $300

If I buy the A900X I will need to buy a standalone microphone, what would be a good one to get (don't factor the mic into the price)? I've heard they pick up a lot of crap that headsets don't.

I will primarily be using this for music, gaming and skype/teamspeak, so naturally a mic is going to be used quite often.

Another thing I'd like to know, how much better is the A900X compared to the A700X?

Any input is appreciated!

I own the Audio Technica AD700, A900X & W1000X headphones.

I would say to get the A900X, with Hifiman Velour ear pads.

Bestbuy has a closeout price of $189.86 for the A900X, Hifiman ear pads are $10+shipping.

Ebay has some good prices on used A900Xs.

I know zero about desktop and add-on mics.

Thanks, I think I'll go with the A900X! Unfortunately I live in Canada so there's no way I'm going to get a price that good.

Most of those are new, but when you set shipping to Canada you can see that shipping increases to around $30, plus import charges. This http://www.ebay.com/itm/audio-technica-ATH-A900X-Audiophile-Closed-back-Dynamic-Headphones-/141221082731?pt=US_Headphones&hash=item20e16eb66b would actually be the cheapest for me, because of the free shipping. Do you know if there is a difference with the Japan model of the a900x? Thanks!

Not sure what you mean by Japan model.

I've assumed the A900X is just made in japan.

Actually, I'm going to ship to a friend in the US, total after conversion and taxes comes to $230. Not bad.

I haven't seen the prices, but they have two models of the new headset:  one based off the 700 (ATH-AG1) and one based off the 900 (ATH-ADG1).  Have you looked into just getting the other one?

I thought they were both based off of the 700, where did you see otherwise?

It was this video:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xlO2NDYHKZk

But rewatching I see it's the 700 and the 500, not the 700 and the 900.  My bad, sorry for the misinformation!

Could be the ATH-AG1 is based off the A700X closed headphone and the ATH-ADG1 off the AD700X open headphone.
