I'm getting a decent tax refund.

Between 2-3 thou.

what to buy, what to buy?

Any recommends?

:D

yes, this DOES qualify as a "Help me" thread.

could also be a bit of fun.

home setups:

mjolnir + he-6 / lcd-3 /lcd-x

anything (not really) + lcd2

high end tube amp + hd800

lyr + he500

koss esp950

jh audio 13

there are tons and tons of options. Being more specific would help. Home or portable? Open or closed? what music genres? Or is this a trick question, and you're not actually asking about headphones?

ERS paper.

What do you consider your weakest link?

Which Goldberg record do you like most? '54 (CBC), '55, '59 (Salzburg), '81 (digital), '81 (analog), '07 (Zenph)? The '81 digital is my favorite record.

What's your favorite classical subgenre(s)?

didn't see that profile.

Since you like classical, why not give the hd800 a try? You already got a woo amp, so it should be all good. And since you also have iems, maybe the jh13

tough questions.

have you heard the Stockholm performance of 1958 on the BIS label?

As far as the Goldbergs go, I prefer the '83.

subgenres; entirely mood dependent.

Or time-of-day dependent.

For instance; I love the Gymnopedie of Satie at midnight, as I am winding down to sleep.

In the mornings, I enjoy string music, often dark cello a la' Truls Mørk or the Beethoven Quartets via the Borodin, while I am drinking my coffee.

Later in the day, more lively me enjoys Villa Lobos, or, perhaps, a pile of Mahler. Maybe the Romes of Respighi.... Or, late afternoon coffee will bring on a hankering for the Takács playing almost anything.

I think I am quite fond of the Impressionist period, both in visual art and musically. So, you won't find Debussy, Fauré or Ravel very far from my heart.

I am asked this question over and over again....and my answer is always the same.

"Depends."

I wonder what would happen with my Carver TFM-35 if I wrapped the inside in ERS paper.....

weakest link might be IEMs, BTW.

I don't have any customs.

But maybe that's not a weak link, as I do so love my cans and my room speakers.

again; tough question.

wasn't saying it had a Goldberg, just wondered if you've experienced it.

I think Alo has something interesting in Universals that are almost customs that might be worth a look.

One can also fit a Blue Hawaii deposit into my TaxCashBack bonanza....

Oh, sure. Yes, I prefer that version of the Mozart 24 to the studio one.
