I have been lurking here for the past few months as I am saving up for a decent headphone amp and dac for my gaming rig, along with the headphones of course. I already have an ASUS Xonar D2\PM for my desktop speakers, and I want a more convenient solution than having to unplug and replug my speakers every time I want to use my headphones.
Here is what I use for head gear currently:
As my blog posting says, I have a set of Razer IEM's for portable usage, and for the money they sound great after break-in, and with some EQ tweaks to brighten things up a bit.
Now, as far as headphones are concerned, I don't want to spend over $300 Canadian right now, so cans that are reference or audiophile-grade are not on my radar. I am eyeballing the Bowers and Wilkins P5's for home use, even though they do not really require amplification, I have had good results with the high-gain setting on my X3 and Razer IEMs for sound quality. I would go for the P7's but I would rather save $100 and keep that in my bank account. I can always upgrade later on anyways. Who knows, B&W may come up with something even better than those in the future.
If you have gotten this far, I salute you. haha! :D
