Larger Ear Cushions for Sennheiser HD439?

Hi guys,

So after many positive reviews on the internet I went and bought some HD 439s this afternoon (my first set of headphones after many IEMs), however, since I have large ears, they sit on my ears a bit and hurt after a little while.

I tried a friends HD 518s and they were great and fit my ears perfectly, however they are also very expensive at $170ish, while the 439s were only $80. (I guess it was wrong of me to assume the 400 series and 500 series have similar sized ear cushions!)

Is it possible to buy larger ear cushions for the 439 at all or am I just going to have to get used to the pain!?

Thanks!

Looking at the way they attach to the headphones, you might be SOL.

Bah, thats unfortunate (not unexpected though). I might order some of the pleather ear cushions off ebay and see if theyre any different to the soft fabric ones that come with the 439s. If not, maybe ill get a knife out and go to town on them :P

I'm actually thinking about getting a pair since they're ~$50 but I'm hesitant because some call them over ear while others on ear. How big are the pads overall and how big is the ear opening?

My ears are pretty damn big, so if your ears are normal sized/smaller they should be fine.

But measuring them:

My advise?

Return them ASAP if you still can and buy a pair from the HD 500 series off eBay or Amazon.  I picked up a pair of HD 515s off eBay for $35.00 and just missed on a pair of HD 555s a couple of nights ago at $58.00.  The HD 500 series (515, 518, 555, 558, 595, 598) are MILES ahead of the 400 series and the earcups are MUCH larger.

Like you, one of my first pair of headphones was the Sennheiser HD 428.  I thought it was nice until I got a 500 series set. Absolutely no comparison.

And to answer your question, I am not aware of any replacement cups for the 400 series that are larger than the OEM earcups.

Not in the US sadly, you cant return stuff just because you dont want them in Australia (they have to be broken lol).

439s cost $77 and 518s cost $130ish. Probably would have spent the extra had i known the 439s were smaller!

Plus i prefer buying pricy stuff from brick-and-mortar retailers in case something goes wrong :)

Thanks for that. Yeah, that's too small for me.
