Please compare ps500 to HD600 for me

Hello,

I have had my HD600 for almost a year. They are my favourite set of headphones so far coming from (in order) CX-300ii, DT770 250ohm, HD650, RS1i, DT880 600ohm, HD600, then DT880 600 ohm again.

Ive always had to sell a headphone to finance the next purchase and never had more than 2 at a time. When I had the DT880 before the HD600 I loved it. I recently bought it again, brand new, and find it painfully bright. This may be because I have gotten used to the laid back senn?

Anyhoo, I've been doing a lot of reading about where to go next. Looks like "bright" headphones are off the table. I stumbled across the ps500 and have read good things. I see from the frequency charts at headphone.com they look easy on the treble (treble frequencies do not peak above lower frequencies). There is unfortunately nowhere I am aware of in ottawa to demo a pair.

Is there anyone out there can can compare to my current HD600 or DT880? If you can be as detailed as you can. I feel too much time has passed for comparisons to my other headphones to be very beneficial. I rebought DT880 based on memory and now find them unlistenable unless i tame the Treble via EQ by 3db slope.

Thanks for any input you give. Much appreciated!

Hello again.

After some extensive googling I can't seem to find any detailed and direct comparisons. Is anyone aware of any around the web that can point me to?

Thanks

Here is a comparison I did of the Grado PS-500s to the Sennheiser HD-598s (agree, NOT the 600s - about 1/3 their cost!).

More usefully, I'd be happy to arrange a bilateral loan... I HAVE the Grado PS-500 and would be glad to part with them for a couple of weeks to send you to compare against your HD-600s, if you in turn would send me the HD-600s for a comparison when you return the PS-500s, and I would then send the HD-600s back!

If this works, others may wish to do it... needs a snazzy name, like "Lend and Learn" or some such.

Or better still, if you have the HD800s that your avatar seems to show, I'd love to do the exchange with them.  I'm seriously considering the purchase of them but know of no store locally that has a Try Before You Buy with them.

Thank you for the replies.

Unfortunately I do not have the HD800, only the HD600 and DT880 currently for headphones. The idea for a loan intrigues me most definitely. Perhaps we can PM about it more in depth.
