Well... i dont have that amp obviously..as thats a poweramp for speakers..mine is tuned and built for a very special specific kind of headphone but has the insides of that special amp..and according to the builder it has same dynamic ,powerful and open sound signature.its the first headphone amp he ever built based on the NSL..... so its a bit cheaper.. lolz.

Subbed as well
Looks great

Also subbed, looks great. Do I read correctly that it runs from a 650000 microfarad capacitor bank??? I guess you caused the lights in your place to dim when connecting it the first time (and that it runs foranother 10 minutes after you cut power). Looks great, curious to hear your impressions about the sound. Never have problems with my wife about audio gear as I took the precaution to set up a prenupt specifying separate accounts, except for one common cost household account for the food. She can blow her money on shoes that make my gear look like a bargain (tip if you don't have separate finances and a shoe afficionado: never take her on a visit to Hong Kong or Dubai) I pour it in hardware and motorcycles.

yep 650.000UF in total..i can power up a hybrid car with that.. :D.

but no, the light dont dim as far i checked it....lolzx..but my wallsocket does give a small flash (not kidding!!) when i plug in the amp (in reality its the plug coming from the PLC..as the amp (and the rest of my rig) is connected into the PLC as u can see on the pics).but i understand thats normal according to Gilbert...the first time i plugged it in i almost jumped a meter high of the scare it gave me.. :D i thought i smoked something!!! can u imagine?..i unplugged everything in a second and my heart pumped like crazy..thinking: "OMFG did i smoke my amp already'.and i mailed Gilbert..and he relaxed me.. its normal..and now i dont disconnect the amp anyway..so no worries anymore.. :D

funny is that i got same reaction in the (dual socket) wallsocket when i plugged the powersupply into the wallsocket just under the plug of the amp..so i solved that to keep the plug of the cable of the powersupply plugged into the PLC (everything of my rig is plugged into that wonderful, very ugly looking thing) and now only unplug the little plug thingie that goes straight into the laptop when i stop listening..as i dont like keeping my laptop on when not used (security issues etc...i even switched off wifi etc on the laptop..its a 100% off the grid dedicated source)..and so it doesnt flash so much...but the amp always stays on..24-7.

and another thing.....strange is also that when u unplug the powersupply of the laptop, the light on the PSU dims immediately, it reacts as if being stung by a bee! normally it would stay on for a while when being disconnected..

and maybe its placebo..but it seems that the laptop starts up much faster now also..and shuts off faster also....oh well..those last things could be coincidence i am guessing..as i never heard of having a huge capacity reserve helps making ur laptop more effecient and faster (HDD, CPU?)..but plugging the laptop into the PLC (instead of directly in wall) did help getting rid of a very very VERY ultra low hum/noise when using the laptop as source (it didnt show when using an external USB HDD with its own dedicated powersupply!). But U only could hear it on extremely silent high quality tracks with classical stuff..but now its gone..or at least not hearable by my ears anymore..am sure its still there but in a lesser extent...

thats why i ordered a custommade linear powersupply (on advice of Gilbert again) to replace the DC switching standard (noisy?) powersupply of my asus laptop..i understand those kind of powersupplies help in making the laptop even more silent (less noise)...am now waiting for a quote on that.,,he already got all the specs of my laptop now..now its waiting..

UPDATE: i just found out Gilbert offers full dsd64 capability(playability) to be retrofitted into his dacs since yesterday...i hate that dude!!! I really do!! And my wallet even more.. and i dont even know if u really need it.

Who said blue circle audio doesnt make future proof stuff?

..and as far i know (together with shiit to a certain degree) its the only brand of which u can sent ur stuff back to to be upgraded to be better..in BC circles its the first thing u do instead of buying new stuff tongue.gif

Decisions decisions tongue.gif

All this waiting and still no news on the sound! smily_headphones1.gif I'm curious!

It would be hilarious if this was the moment hifimanrookie decided that actually all amps basically sound the same. wink.gif

not a chance!...and its funny people speculation about it..one of them even saying they wont sell their odac yet....bad boy..so ur going to sell ur 337 again? and keep the odac? oopsie...i know u love that amp..just as much i loved it myself my friend ;)

am now going to pick up my review where i started..so its up to get get active again...happy reading!

That 337 is going nowhere, am in Tokyo now and have auditioned some heavy hitting tube amps here. But imo they don't really best that 337, obviously with my tube selection. What I did find out: I used some more powerful tube amps here with the HE-6 (Almarro etc) and despite the good results I have with it, it lacks a bit of power to really get those going to their best. But that was to be expected, still does as good as my Vio though, hard though it is to believe.

Looking forward to your impresions, I'll read more on the plane back to India, going to enjoy my last day in Japan and have some sashimi and kaki fry (fried fresh oysters) tonight. Will be in Europe from the 26th on so if you have time for a coffee during the weekend or so and are not too far up north, pm me.

good to know..and as i told u..the 337 u got is something unique, tube amp wise..it can go one on one with much 'on paper' better tube amps... and am glad u are seeing the 337 now..just as i did when i had it..and everyone thought i was crazy and out of my wits saying outloud a chinese made amp could be as good as i said it was on a he500..OMG the thought alone..its not being a US made amp..lolz

the impressions are ready now..damn..that was hard work..if i knew it as like this i would never ever done it..and i now even more respect the pros who do this for a living..

but dont forget...its my first ever real review..so i hope i didnt do to many oopsies along the way... " src="http://files.head-fi.org/images/smilies/wink.gif" />

enjoy reading!

and when i think something chances significally in the sound i will update the review accordingly...as objective as i can be..but u know me also..i dont like to lie or say half truths or keep things back.....but loving stuff that i own i do..yep i do very passionately.. :D

enjoy ur flight!...maybe u can be at that benelux meet also? want me to keep u updated on that? i will attend it for sure! it will be on a sunday...green light is given and now its waiting for the sign in list to be ready.

And ofcourse i will pm u for a coffee..enjoy ur fried oysters..never liked oysters to be honest..my wife loves them..tongue.gif

$20K for an amp!

I am sorry to troll, but this hobby is getting stupid: only five years ago no one would have considered a $500 HE500 "good value" (I know, it is good value).
