Iphone/Ipod compatible headphones and or amp

Ok, I'm a noob here obviously and I don't know much about the headphone terminology and what not. But I have read up on a few things and searched some forums and I think I narrowed down some characteristics I can look for in headphones... Alright so, I'm willing to pay $300 or less for a pair of portable headphones that are compatible for iPhone or Ipod 5th gen. If you think it would go better with an amp then could you do a half way split and recommend amps for $150 and $150 headphones that go well together. I also like over the ear headphones and I dont know if it makes a difference whether it's closed or open but I probably would need closed as I play my music very loudly. I'm in to all kinds of music so.. picking by genre might not help as I like them all sorry. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

There's a lot of good headphones in the $300 range. I think most people would recommend the Sennheiser Momentum, but if you want a little more bass than V-Moda M100 should be looked into. They're both efficient so you shouldn't have a problem using them with your iPod.

Ok thanks! Do they need portable amps to sound good or are they fine by themselves?

A friend noticed me looking up the two headphones and he said the v-modas chords are crap and that he's been looking for new headphones. Also tried to tell me to look up sennheiser so I guess that's what I'm getting!

All I will say about this is that you need to go to a Microsoft Store or Brookstone and judge for yourself.

The issue with the V-Moda Cables is the stiffness. Otherwise, excellent.

I think SRH840 is the best all rounder. Overall, it has a warm sound but stays clear, and has an accurate soundstage. Build quality and isolation are good, but the headband needs more padding. (You can mod it pretty easily.)

Another choice is ZMF, which has a thick black background giving focus to whatever should be emphasized in the music. Bass will depend on which version you decide on. Treble extension is remarkable and stays gentle. Isolation is less than fully sealed, but at least 80%.

I've narrowed down to the sennheiser momentum and the srh840s. I do plan to preview before I buy as well as read up on more reviews and headphones.
