Fiio X3 Vs Fiio E18?

I know one is a music player and the other one is a portable Amp but if i want loud volume and decent quality what would be the better choice? I would be using the E18 with a Samsung Galaxy S4 for now with 68+ ohm headphones. What are your thoughts?

Well, when you use the mp3 player in your S4, you are draining the battery. With the X3, you would haven't that issue of also using your phone battery charge up. That would be a factor for me.

The X3 has the same amp section as the E17, only supposedly even improved a little. I have owned the E17. It's a very capable amp that will definitely give you more volume than your S4 if your S4 is anything like my Galaxy Note 2. Will it be loud enough for you? Only you can decide that. And the E17 does have good SQ. Better than my Note 2? I doubt it. My Note 2 is very good.

As for figuring out which is better--the X3 or the E18--in overall clarity and volume, well, the E18 is fairly new. Probably going to have to look for a review thread on here for it and *hope* someone has compared them, or at least compared the E18 to the E17.

But, the S4 has a removable battery. You can swap out in 10 seconds. I have a Note 3, on the same style as the S4, and I carry 2 spare batteries with me all the time. So, in my newbie opinon, if the S4 delivers and plays audio formats the same way  the X3, IMO, you are saving a lot.. From what they tell me, and I am newbie, just going by what I read, the S4, and my Note 3, can play loosless/flac/Hi Res Audio files too.

I am going with the E18, and my Note 3, and Note 10.1 2014 be the players.. both with 64gb sd cards too.

I don't want to carry extra batteries. So for me, it's still an issue smily_headphones1.gif

Cool, with the X3 or X5, that is an extra unit.. Much bigger than a spare battery..

Question, which I think really sums it up. The S4, like the Note 2 and Note 3, can't these smartphones play the lossless files(flac)just like the X3?

Yes. As I just responded to you in another thread, Poweramp has had that capability for at least several years.

Dag, I am going to have to put you on the payroll for your prompt feedback in two threads..;)

Bear with me on the questions, I am just learning, really do appreciate the feedback.. :beerchug:

Seriously. I am going to be h*ll when all this stuff gets here and I go for the hookups.. It will be questions galore.. :D

So far, it looks like everyone has been over the ground I am going to travel. I just have to read, and follow their path.. Might ask a few questions for confirmation.

One last thing, which I haven't see so far in the threads I been reading. Any clues on how you all hide all the headphones from the wifee??????:D I am at that point now, need to do some under cover work.   Does the wifee count and/or tell the difference when one obtains another headset?? :D

You can also charge your S4 with E18. No extra battery needed then. To be honest I haven't notice any noticeable battery draining when using E18 so that should not be an issue.
