Mod to reduce clutter on Fostex T50rp anyone?

Hey head-fi. I recently purchased a pair of Fostex T50rp's to mod them. One of my goals is to reduce the clutter and lack of detail that these experience when they are overloaded with complex music. (Definition goes out the door, it kind of all just jumbles together into a stew of eeewwwww.) Anyone found a solution for this? They are un-modded at this point, I am expecting to add dynamat and fill the cups with cotton balls, then maybe cover the bass port a bit to reduce the bass.

What kind of amp do you have?

I'm just using a stereo receiver: Onkyo HT-R330. It runs my HE-400's and DT-800's (250ohm) just fine, so I would assume it is the headphones.
