Where do I buy the "REAL" Altoids amp?

I am looking on eBay and see several sellers selling this amp.

I want the real one, and not someone elses' imitation that is inferior.

If you can steer me toward the right one it would be appreciated!

There is no such "real" Altoids amp. The cMoy circuit was originally created in 1998 by Chu Moy, and the design has since been built by thousands of DIY builders. You'll heave to select a builder you trust.

You can find more history on page 2 of this PDF:

Ok lol, I had a feeling.

Who is a good builder of them?

I have read not to get one on a protoboard.

Well, John isn't allowed to answer due to forum's rules, but I'll let you guess: He is in this thread and it isn't me ;)

They look great but out of my price range.

I will undoubtedly buy a high end amp in the next yr, but after a few pairs of cans and other purchases my fun money is low right now.

Build your own, a cmoy amp is pretty much the easiest thing to build!

edit: I would actually follow the tutorial posted above by jseaber, it seems a lot better.

I would love to, but my eyes are no good, and my hands shake now.

I tried to mod my daughters Wii system a few yrs ago, and it went BAD!

I am stuck with pre-built now

That's because they don't sell it on eBay anymore, as they got their own website now: jdslabs.com
