Beyerdynamic DT880 premium or Soundmagic HD200, can't decide.

Usage is mostly gaming with some music (most genres) and occasional movie.

So I really do need a natural sounding headphone with very good sound stage. Would like a non-fatiguing sound that is not lacking base, punch and fun also. I have the HD650 at the moment, and while it sounds great with superb base its a little laid back and muffled. Also the tone is not really right for gaming. For instance, someone walking on wooden floor boards just doesn't sound right, it sounds a little too weighty(or rich?) and more like an instrument than a realistic sound.

People who own or have listened to both of these, which one would best suit me?

Essence STX with M-Stage amp is my setup.

Thanks!

To tease out that kind of differences between your HD650 and other kinds of headphones, you are going to have to hear them. I don't think anyone can tell you for sure which ones to get to achieve that.

True, that would certainly help, but unfortunately I'm not able to audition any headphone before buying.

These two just seemed to be around the price range I'm aiming for and neutral sounding. Could get the DT880, or maybe the 990, 770 or MMX300 would be an options also. I don't want any sort of recessed or muffled sound. Just a little confused at the moment. :(

The DT880 are the neutral sounding headphones of those three Beyers. However, they are semi-open, so they do not have as wide of a soundstage as many fully open headphones.

Neutral sounding headphones will typically not have the bass "punch" you mentioned in you first post since that tends to come from a midbass emphasis, and "fun" headphones are usually colored in sound quality.

So when you say you cannot try headphones before buying, can you order from a place with a good return policy? That's what many of us do. For example, Amazon (or fulfilled by Amazon, but not 3rd party vendors who do their owns shipping) is very good about returns. The cost of return shipping is a worthwhile "demo" price.

Guess I will see how the DT880 is. As you say the place where I'd be buying from has a return policy so should be no probs. I'll just have to check existing posts regarding what's best for a mostly gaming headphone I guess. Cheers for the help. :)
