Finally installed the latest rockbox. The biggest issue for me was playlists. I couldn't edit playlists within rockbox and save the changes without an error box flashing. Only solution is to manually edit the playlist using a text editor on the computer then saving the file back in the playlist folder on dx50. It's an extra step, but it's a solution. Onward with the music listening.

Dear ROCKbox users, could you please describe SQ difference between latest Mango, and rockbox. Do you think that rockbox is better, and why.

RB to me is truly neutral/flat. Mango is a bit to the warm side.

thanks alot for you help!
my last question hehe
do you have an idea if this player supports Hebrew language? i didnt find an answer on the web o=
If you use rockbox, use the gnu-unifont. For mango, you'd better send e-mail to ibasso.

Hi guys,
I just bought a DX50 and am very happy with the way it sounds. I do want better shuffle options, like being able to shuffle among all folders on my USB OTG drive, so I guess Rockbox is the way to go for me.
But I have a problem with the install instructions: I don't understand them!
I have no knowledge of Android and no experience using CWM Recovery. The only time I've flashed new FW onto a device was installing Rockbox on my Gigabeat F40, maybe 6 years ago now. So I'm hoping some of you will take pity and help me out.
The instructions say only this:
So I downloaded the "yandex disk" from that link, but I don't know how to install "as usual." I try Googling around for instructions, but what I find varies. Sometimes it says I need to root my device --- I don't know what that means or whether I need to do it here. Sometimes it says I need to install some other thing to use CWM Recovery. Can someone give or point me toward some complete instructions that will work for the DX50?
For step 2, I understand I need to put the Rockbox zip into internal memory and then select it when I'm in CWM Recovery...Anything else to it?
Thanks for any help you can give.

The instructions say only this:
1) you need to install CWM recovery. Get standard firmware with CWM recovery here: yandex disk -> install update.img as usual
2) reboot into CWM recovery (power on holding vol+) and install rockbox zip from internal or external SD 3) reboot and enjoy

Welcome to the DX50 addicted!
For me the instruction that evilhippie wrote worked great:
"1) Download the FIRMWARE_DOC2008.zip file from http://yadi.sk/d/UbPDGP_IKvVCA . Inside you will find a number of zip files, and an update.img file. Ignore the zips for now, and copy the update.img to your DX50s internal memory and install it as you would any other official firmware update. Go to settings -> advanced -> system update. The dx50 will automatically reboot into ibasso's recovery and install the modified update.img. Essentially, this update.img is exactly the same as the stock firmware, except ibasso's recovery is replaced by CWM (both of which are booted into by holding power + volume on startup). Note: Since the firmware file is about 10mb bigger than stock and contains a custom recovery, it will take a minute or so longer to finish the install. If you haven't already copied the cwm_rockbox_2013-03-25.zip to the internal memory, reboot back into the main software and do so now.
2) Boot into recovery again after the update is completed (holding down power + volume up on boot). You should see a new recovery menu with an orange eye and a top hat in the center. The bottom should read CWM-Based recovery modified by androtab.info v6.0.3.1. Now you select Install zip from sdcard, select choose zip from sd card (unlock button up and down), and select the cwm_rockbox_2013-03-25.zip (mirror at mega.nz) file. It will then ask to confirm the install. Scroll down and select yes, and CWM will install the zip. When finished, return and select reboot the system.
3) Next time you start the dx50, you will get a touchscreen with a choice of whether to launch into mango (the stock player) or rockbox. At the moment, you must launch into the stock player if you want to transfer files over usb.
4) If you want to uninstall CWM and go back to the stock recovery, simply flash the stock_recovery.zip file in CWM and the original ibasso recovery will be restored. I'm not quite sure what the other files are, but they seem to be sound tweaks which are also flashable in CWM, and one of the file contains font tweaks, possibly for rockbox."
Give it a try, step for step, it can't go wrong.

Well, all credits to evilhippie. At first I couldn't figure it out also, but with his instructions all went wel.
Enjoy your music. Maybe if certain persons in Russia and Ukraine would listen to the DX50 with RB one hour every day, the world would be a much happier and saver place

I usually listen to my rockboxed dx50 before sleep. I have 128GB SD card and about 5000 flac and alac and some hi-bitrate mp3 and aac. To give my whole collection about the same chance, I listen to the music album by album night by night. That way I must to scroll every night thru list of albums to the album which I listened to the night before. Is it possible to setup rockbox in that way, that after boot and select database/album, the selected album will be the last listened album, or something similar in folder view? My folder names is organized like: Artist name - Album name (Year)\01 title.flac....02...

I just got the volume spike with Rockbox and FW 1.2.8. I hit play with my IEMs in and found the volume was up all the way. Is that how the spike has manifested for others?
OW, that hurt.
I guess what I'll do from now on is start first, then put in the IEMs. If the spike is on I'll hear it before the IEM is all the way in.
[edit]Man, I've never been hit that hard before. I actually feel a little sick. Hearing seems OK, though.

This is bad. So the volume spiking thing is more like a hardware issue..

Unless what happened to me isn't the same thing as others have experienced --- I just posted in the other thread asking. Last month someone posted that the spike happened in the middle of a song, which is different. It's possible that my volume button somehow got held down...?

I do not believe this was a Rockbox issue. I am guessing that you were pressing the volume key.
