White noise/static on Sony MDR7506 Professional

I've been getting static on the Sony MDR7506 Professional headphones I recently got. Occasionally there will be a popping sound, and the static will stop for a minute, but besides that the static is fairly constant. It's really been getting on my nerves, because I don't have any alternative headphones. I am using them on OSX Mavericks. Does anyone have any idea on how to stop this, and make my headphones amazing again?

Sounds like a source problem, not a headphone problem.

Headphones don't inherently create static and popping noises. Usually its the amp, source or power supply that is the culprit.

First of all plug the headphone into your phone or mp3 player to make sure its not the headphone that's the culprit.

Try changing the amp, source or even a different power outlet in the house and you may notice an improvement. If nothing helps, perhaps something in the audio chain is faulty?

Thanks. I tried them into my phone, and there was no static. It ends up that the headphone port on my laptop is just screwed up. Thanks for the help.

Ah right. A Laptop.

Try using it when disconnected from the electrical mains, so battery only.
Sometimes that makes a world of difference.
