Right. Only the pre-amp outs on the D1 have the tube sound.

Since you already have the Little Dot MKIII, why would you want to do that? Why not just buy a good transparent DAC and trust in your tube headphone amp? Get an ODAC and convert your music to digital files.

Could you offer some options or point me in the right direction? I would like to continue to be able to listen to my physical cd's. I might start to rip my music collection at some point but just don't have the time to start something like that now.

So you just need one CD/DVD player to connect if you have a DAC, right? I really don't know the optical DACs that are out there. You might try reading some in the dedicated source component forum.

I just ordered a Maverick Audio D2 DAC with upgraded tube and op-amps, hope it sounds as good as others have said. I can connect both my optical drives through it and feed both amps as it has optical and digital coax inputs and two RCA outputs, one tube and one SS. I can mix it up and try the tube output with my SS or tube amps and vise versa. I also ordered two optical as well as two digital coax cables from two different manufactures to see if I can hear a difference in digital cables. I have read the D2 DAC is possibly more "warm" than bright and due to my current headphones I'm hoping it's a good pairing. Wish me luck!
