Budget headphones choices

Thread Starter

I have a few pairs of headphones currently.

I have started to listen to mp phones way more recently than my stereo systems.

I have some Phillips headphones that sound pretty decent, and a pair of Sony noise cancellng ones that sound very entry level to me.

Anyway want/need a better pair(s) now.

I am disabled now and income is low...sooo....I have a limited budget.

I have a few choices, but am not stuck on them.

Audio-Technica ATH-M50s

JVC Victor HA-S500-B Black

Superlux HD668B

CAD The Sessions MH510

I listen to evey genre of music almost, so I love every aspect of music, clear guitar that doesnt hurt ears and scream, immerse sound that isolates me from the rest of the world, vocals so open they give you goosebumps, and bass that isnt shy or flabby.

Basically I want it all for a cheap price lol.

I know none of these are the best choices out there, but after a week or so of reviews, I have decided these ar a starting point in my quest for the pair(s) I will listen to.

Any help would be welcome and appreciated!!!

I would consider adding a Grado to your list, maybe the SR-80i. I love mine and they are similar in cost to the Audio-Technicas.

Thanx for the reply.

Do you find them to be too bass heavy?

I have heard several phones are bass shy, or balanced might be a better word, but I like a lot of bass sometimes dep on what mood/genre I am playing, but dont want only bass and no SQ...

They needed a lot of burn in, at least 70 hours. The bass got really tight and everything sounded more open. I think the pink noise (http://simplynoise.com) did it.

The HA-S500s came today.

I know they are an entry level HP, but the sound made me smile as soon  as they went on my ears.

I was using the Philips SHL5500/28 as my go to pair till now.

They sounded much better than my noise cancelling Sony, and my generic Senheiser set.

I didnt expect such a difference in sound!

I heard the JVC was bass heavy , and only mediocre elsewhere, but this just isnt my opinion.

I havent heard the Sen HD 650, but with my limited headphone exp I think the clarity is great.

I still want to try the SEN HD650 and experience that open sound-stage, but these will keep my happy hopefully till I can afford them.
