Hi, new to headphone hifi, but not new to  audio.

I have loved audio since I was born.

I started trying to build speakers at 12 yrs old.

I was a car audio installer for several yrs till I was injured.

I still run car audio, home theater etc...

I even have a decent system in the garage gym.

I recently decided to broaden my headphone knowledge and usage.

I have entry level headphones now, and have my eye on a few different pairs.

I also need a portable and a table (desk) amp.

I just bought the latter.

The seller offers a choice ( for extra coin) different tubes....12AU7 6922 6N11

The 1st one is the default, the other ones in order add $5, and  $10

I know nothing about tubes and sound, as I have never used any type of tube preamps etc...yet.

I would love some feedback, as I have to decide which one to get so I can pay for Ebay auction and wait for it to come.

Oh Ill add genres i listen to, as that probably will change best tube choice.

I listen to a broad range of music as follows:

70's Bread...Fleetwood Mac...Al Green...Pink Floyd.....

80's Hall&Oats...Def Leppard...Toto.....

90's Guns N Roses....2Pac...Kenny G....Al B Sure....ATB...

Anymore impressions of different tubes anyone wants to share?

I went ahead and let it ship with the default 12AU7 tube.

After some research I have found that 12AU7, as well as many tubes is a model made by several companies.

Some good some not so much.

I need to find out which brand mine comes with, but I am suspecting it will be a Chinese made one not a Mullard  etc..

Grab amp with default tubes, let's the amp and tube finished burn in period (100 hours).Review your amp by listening, if u r not happy with the sound signature...u can start tube rolling (change).
There are lot of 12AU7 in the market, new production or NOS (old stock), ..

Here, the list 12AU7 that people love, but its depend on your sound preference, some people love smooth and sweet sound, other love tight bass etc.
1. Amperex
2. Mullard
3. RCA clear top, black plate

I dont know my preference yet, but I am looking for wide big sound-stage....like a 3D image.

I never knew these tubes were so small.

I pictured them like 4-6" long.
