Thanks. So it is a good candidate to replace my AK100 as my next source for my HUGO. :-)

We don't know what Cowon is using for I/V conversion and LPF, as well as gain stage and current buffering --- whether it's opamp-based or discrete like iRiver. Personally, I prefer the "sound" of a Burr-Brown chip to a Cirrus Logic chip (even with two), but it's difficult to make an assessment on sound quality this way. Getting to 120 dB(A) SNR is impressive, so it points to clean power rails and proper decoupling. Who knows how that translates to SQ, though.

All three units --- the AK120 II, AK240, P1 --- output ~2 Vrms to its outputs, so power delivery should be similar. Actually, iRiver is publishing identical performance specifications for both the AK120 II and AK240; I don't know whether it means the internals are identical or what.

Wait I thought the ak240 uses a opamp?

I just got an email from an authorized Australian seller and they are getting their sample late this week.

no pricing or availability details are yet finalized, i will try my best to go and try the unit if they allow me.

Where'd you see that? I was under the assumption that all of their stuff used discrete analog output, but maybe I'm wrong. I don't hear anyone talking about opamps.
