Gratz on the BHSE!! Sorry for not reading the whole thread, but has a headphone been picked yet?

Also seeing as how you're in Ft. Worth, you'd be coming to Dallas meets in the future with your brand new gear, right?

Nearly nine years ago, I helped organize the first Ft. Worth meet.  It's kind of fun to check out the old school gear, and attendees.  Here was the original announcement from 2005:  http://www.head-fi.org/t/120535/ft-worth-july-23-a-mini-that-might-morph-to-a-m

The one Nick Dangerous is hosting in May won't work for me, as it is my son's 12th birthday (yes, he's grown quite a bit since donning the A900s you see in my avatar).  But, no loss, since I wouldn't yet have much gear to add to the mix.  But, by next May, I'm hoping to have something meaningful to contribute!

Nice blast from the past. That was during my 'got a gilmore lite for my HD580 and couldn't tell a difference - those head-fi people are nuts' break from 04-05ish to 08-09ish or I might have been there.

Nick will probably host another around july-sept this year so keep a watch out.

I am finalizing an order for the BHSE.  Yes, I know I have awhile to wait...

Grats on the choice. The wait time for a new one is usually 1.5y+, and since Justin hasn't even finished this batch yet (it's been 20 months?) you're looking at an even longer wait. From what I've seen there are usually 3-4 secondhand BHSE's per year, so in this situation I'd just put out a WTB or wait for one to show up on the used forum- chances are you'll get one way before the next batch is done.

As for the 009s I'd wait for a Texas meet to try one out before biting. Usually all the top stat amp vendors attend so you can try out the whole shebang.

"A good HD800 setup will complement a 007 mk1 (or even mk2.5) + KGSSHV or BHSE very nicely."

I didn't make a recommendation for multiple setups for the OP, I'm just saying that the HD800 will complement the O2's.

Never once did I say, I RECOMMEND op to get both the O2's and HD800's.

You know you usually need to have one of those setups in place already for the other to complement it. Since the op has never had, or heard either.. them dots.

Fantastic decision on the Blue Hawaii! Glad you decided to make the leap.

You might come out a little over budget but it's going to be TOTL and you only live once so what the heck.
It's going to be one helluva rig.

@ bahamaman,

While waiting for the BHSE, you can buy the Stax SRM-717 to help you get buy.  I had the 717 while waiting for my BHSE and it was a really good amp.  Expect to pay around $1200 for it though.  Still a bargain priced.  You can also get the SRM-727 and get a feedback mod to improve the sound.

No you don't. OP had the O2's. MK2 or MK1 not much difference except MK2 has slight more mid bass hump. Derp.

Just had a discussion above about how the MK1 from anything except the BHSE is a different can altogether... the OP's original setup was a MK1+ES1.. dots again..

Also had =/= have eh? He would have to repurchase them.. you know. Complement.

Btw, I'm sure you've owned the BHSE setup for awhile and listened to it extensively before making that recommendation right?

Hi bahamaman,

My advice while waiting for the BHSE, ( which IMO is an excellent choice ) would be to get a pair of HD-600's, a portable amp ( I have the Pico Slim which I'm very happy with ) and an iPod. The three won't cost you a huge amount of money so you'll have more to spend on the headphones you'll be using with the BHSE.
If you end up going for the 009's, IMO you need to get the Psvane EL34PH's. I've used the stock Mullard's and SED's with my BHSE and from both tubes the highs sounded shrilling, but with the PH's there's no such problem, just amazing SQ.
Anyway, I hope which ever headphone you decide to go for, you'll get a lot of enjoyment from.

Was it really worth starting this thread when (only after a week) you've bought the Amp of your 'choice'.Can't have been based on anything written here or extensive auditioning(or even A/B test of the most recommended)
Would it not have been better to have at least paid some 'lip service' to the comments posted and then made comments based on your process of your selection?
To state that you've decided on a BHSE as it will 'hold it's value' seems strange!?
Time to go and drown some maggots(that's fishing to you in the US)
Will I read another post on this site?????

Good to hear you decided on something, considering the turn this thread took it couldn't have been easy.

My decision to purchase the BHSE is based on reading hundreds, maybe thousands of posts, in addition to what was said here.  I have been struck by the universal praise it has garnered.  Most gear, even the highest of the high end stuff, seems to have its fanboys and nay-sayers.  On the other hand, the BHSE has very few detractors.

I am sorry that you feel this thread has been a waste of your time.  As for me, it hasn't.  This thread, with its multitude of suggestions, helped to remind me of my own quest for headphone nirvana eight years ago.  During that quest, I bought and sold a dizzying array of 'phones, amps, and sources, always convinced that the holy grail was just around the corner.  After four years, it landed me in 'stat land.  Climbing back on head-fi, hearing the various recommendations made on this and other threads, I merely decided that I didn't need to embark upon that same journey.

The BHSE is a fine choice. You don't see many BHSE go up in the FS forums and there's a good reason for that.
