Dallas, TX - Sunday, June 1st, 2014 - "The Fickle Force of June" meetup - Page 2

Aww hell yea! I'll bring my 'stats. I really want to take an hour to compare the HD 800 to my ESP-950 in terms of detail retrieval (with the slight caveat that I want to see if I need to upgrade my DAC).

Lately, I've had some trouble shaking the idea that somebody should invent a multi-driver coaxial headphone: electrostatic > 100 hz, and dynamic/ortho for <= 100 hz. Of course, that would require a very custom multi-voltage amplifier with a built-in crossover and electrical isolation between the 600V and 3V outputs, and suddenly you have an unshippable product. I can dream, though.....

Sounds sort of like the AKG K340, which are good, but odd. Electrostatic + Dynamic, iirc.

Heh, it looks like they're reusing model numbers:

Very interesting. Thanks! Had not heard of the "electret" style of driver before.

Does anyone know if the gentleman with the ps500 and rs1 still has his rs1 up for sale? ( Sorry, I'm not good with names...) I might be getting new Grados. wink.gif

Anyone planning to bring a Woo WA2 and Beyer T1s?

I'm asking for...a friend. Yeah, that's it. ;)

Disregard. I will be able to attend. :D

Yes, I still have them. I haven't tried to sell them very hard. The the sr-100's have found a new home.

I'm debating between Q701's for $200, Mad Dogs for $300 or these RS1's for $400... It's tough, I don't know whether twice to Q701 is worth it for a pair of Grados...

My two cents:

Grado's just aren't quite to my taste. I prefer a more analytic sound from my headphones (emphasis on transparency and detail resolution) because I can get that "fun factor" from my loudspeakers.

I own the Mad Dogs, and I love them. However, the reason why I picked them up is specifically because they are closed for all practical purposes. While they are among the very best of the closed cans, I see that category filling an entirely different purpose from my main set of cans, which I believe should be open.

So, I think the Q701 is your best bet.

I've owned the Q701 and have had 325i for over three years.  Obviously, I prefer the Grados, more lively and fun plus, with the G-Cush, more comfortable and bigger soundstage.  Dogs are closed so that's a completely different animal(!).

I'm really leaning towards the Q701's, simply because I need a larger more spacious phone to complement my SR80's, something better at classical and more relaxing, for falling asleep to. I already have decent closed cans (V6), so that solves my portable need.
My only bug is that I REALLY REALLY REALLY REEEEAALLLYY want the RS-1's, and always have. Fell in love with the signature almost a year ago. But they ARE twice as much as the Q701's, and even though that's a good deal for the RS1's, I am only making 7.35 at McDonalds.

count me in, not sure what all I'll bring but probably RSA Apache, hd650's gungnir, and grado sr60i's

don't know if it'll be worth packing up the turntable to bring down.

Maxvla what termination do you have on your hd800's?  I may need to look into adaptors so I can plug my hd650's into your GSX the apache is dual 3 pin

Oh yeah and I can bring the Lyr

For HD800 I have the stock 1/4 and a 4 pin XLR balanced. The GS-X mk2 has 4 and 2x3 pin XLR as well as 1/4 unbalanced.
