Hey! First post here. So I finally landed myself a pair of v-moda m-100s . ABOUT TIME! Ive had m-80s before and I currently use, and am fairly happy with, a pair of ath-m50s I havent tried the m-100s yet I will be unboxing them when i get home today.
Anyways, im looking to buy a portable player to use with my new m-100s I want to use lossles files and would prefer to not have an amp to carry around. Basically, im looking for a portable player with a good DAC.
as always it would be nice if I didn't spend my college savings on it. I was considering fiio x3.
opinions? Ideas?

X3, x1 and dx50 are good options I suppose

What im wondering though, fiio is releasing the x5 (supposedly) within a pretty short ammout of time. Perhaps the newer x5 will be worth waiting for?

Perhaps, but it will also be expensive.. I like the features of the x3

I don't give much credence to Headfonia reviews of headphones, but it's rather better for players and amps. He seemed to consider X5 a slight improvement, so I'd choose X3 based on price if the difference is $75+. I don't know Fiio's history of product support so maybe longevity is an issue, in which case buy X5.

Well, from what I hear the x3 carries the fiio warm house sound and the x5 craves more airy and neutral signature. Correct me if I'm wrong.

You could say the same about iPod (except for the missing formats and EQ). But I agree with you.

Do you think the x3 will drive the m-100s alright. I want to get the best sound from my new babies.

I don't know for sure because I tried it only a few times, but someone on the M100 thread will be able to tell you immediately.

The x3 will have plenty of power at least.
