Best all-around headphone under $300

Hi Everyone,

I am fairly new at this and I am looking for my first pair of good headphones. I am looking for something that can play all genres, but I do not listen to hip hop, rap or dubstep all that often. My budget is $300, but I could be convinced to go over if its supergood. My criteria:

  • Must be able to play almost all genres of music
  • Under $300
  • Over ear with good comfort
  • Does not need an amp, will be played straight from an iPod or MacBook Pro
I am open to closed or open back headphones. At first I was looking for an open back pair, butI didnt find any I liked. These are my current front runners:
  • V-Moda M100
  • Focal spirit one
  • Nad Viso HP50

I am open to any recommendations or advice.

thank you!biggrin.gif

I'd go with the NAD.  Also check out the Audio Technica ATH-AD900X.

If you're willing to amp, your options increase.

NAD for sure. Audio Technica is a bit overly bright and dry for my tastes. (imma 650 fan)

But for traveling, the M-100 cannot be beaten out of the three.

I'd say AKG K612 pro but they won't go loud enough out of an ipod.
