Bowers & Wilkins C5 or P7

I have been lurking for some time and decided it is time to ask my question.

I am looking for a new headphone. I allready listened to the Beoplay H6 and B&W P7, P5 and P3. I really liked the sound of the P7. I am not an audiofile, i just love how the P7 plays music. Vocals sound very close by, like I am with the artists in the same room. And bass is great for me with these.
The Beoplay H6 is nice as well but has a more natural sound. It does sits very comfy around my ears.

Biggest problem though is the P7's pricetag. So I was wondering how the more affordable C5 compares to the P7. Maybe someone knows how they compare to the P7. It is not allowed in stores to listen to IEM's which is understandable but annoying as well.

Not in the same league.

I have both the C5 and P7, and while the SQ of the C5 is alright, the fit isnt great at all. From memory the bass was also quite sloppy.

HOWEVER, I have nothing but love for my P7s.
Awesome fit, build and beautiful sound quality.

If you can afford them, I would get the P7s, without hesitation.

P7 sounds way better.  No contest with C5, totally different league.

Thanks. I really fell in love with the P7's sound. So I guess i have to save some cash. Well, no holidays with the family this year and buy the P7 instead :-)

But do you think the P7 is worth the extra €220?

the P7 is one of the best investments I've made.  It allows me to drive it with a humble Sansa Fuze and the sound is worth the extra bucks.  I don't believe there is another headphone at this price point that sounds so good driven without and external amp.  I am reallly wondering what it would sound like with a Fiio or hifiman player because it sounds so good already.  I cannot even listen to music through my Westone i.e. phones any longer.

If you are after an IEM that compares with the P7, I like my Sennheiser IE80s.

However, I would definitely get the P7s though, worth every cent.

The best part is you can get them at an Apple store, and then return them hassle free if you don't like them within 2 weeks.

If you have the opportunity I'd recommend auditioning the KEF m500 too. They're probably not up to the P7 standard but I found they outperformed the P5 by a long way. Very neutral with a nice soundstage, and good tight bass. I also find them one of the most comfortable headphones I've tried but this will be dependent on head size. They're 32ohm so easy enough to drive from an iPhone or such.

If you have tried ultrasone edition 8 and like the sound signature, you will appreciate how P7 having similar sound signature, cost almost a quarter of edition 8

The Kef looks nice, but I prefer an over-ear because of sound blocking.

Is the C5 compareble with P5?

Not at all. I have the C5, while I have to say they are not a bad pair of earphones, they are nothing compared to the P5 and P7 in terms of SQ. The mids may be intoxicating, but the bass is bloated and boomy and at times the highs can sound harsh and peaky compared to the P5 and P7.

The only reason why I chose the C5 is because I want a pair of small, easy to carry in the pocket earphones. SQ-wise, it's not even a fair contest.

I found the C5 to be more impressive than the P5.

Well, it all depends on taste. I understand that the soundprofile of a C5 is not like the P7.
So I am gonna try some more headphones is the store to see if there is one similar to the P7 with a lower pricetag. Or just give in and buy a pair of P7.

I pulled the trigger last Friday and bought the P7! I even got a €50 discount. I was very tempted to buy the C5 but figured that I would regret this choice. Not because the C5 would be bad, but because I knew how the P7 perform and I knew I liked the sound signature. And now I am very happy with the P7. Today I had some time to sit back and try them. They are great performers and they're not even burned in yet. Fit is great. I used them in the garden today, sunny (20 C), and my ears didn't get sweaty like with my Philips Uptowns.

Thanks for all your ideas and help.
