The NEW JVC FX850..Woodie perfection?. (A review) - Page 80

Just got the 850's and they do not sound good right out of the box. They are very thin, no bass and sibilance on voice. I will break it in, but the sound should be good out of the box. I am using the HIFIMAN 901 with the balanced card. So far not impressed. I have not fooled around with ear tips.

That's weird. Everyone who's heard an open-box 850 mentions the bass being bloated, not thin.

FX850 thin?. Sounds like a fit issue to me.

Maybe I only tried the tip that came with it.

Don't remember if they came with the medium size on there. If so try the larger size. All earphones will sound thin with sibilance and no bass if your not getting the right seal in your ears..

I remember they had the medium tips on when my pair arrived, so definitely try the larger tips.

You are so right. I tried the squishy ones and now we are talking. I now have warmth and no brightness. The bass now needs to tighten up and these will be perfecttttttttttttttttttt. Does anyone know what these squishy ones are, I have never seen them before.

After 2 weeks of burning, the sound has greatly opens up and overall clarity have jumped notches up. Bass have tighten and highs are smoothed. My main concern, the mids have really been brought alive doing it's thing in line with the highs and lows. Now, I can't lyrics sound terminology but to my ears, this has a balance sound from top to bottom. Yet it's musical, it's exciting and fun to drown myself with my tunes. Just my personal opinion here and have a good time with your woodie to all on board the woodie train. Cheers.

The hype lives!! And Wayne needs to get himself a pair.

Also, got myself those cables from Fiio Eric mentioned. A tiny bit less bass, a more prominent treble and brings the mids just a tad forward. Subtle, but a very enjoyable flavor to the Woodies, very nice.

Yes, I heard you Ds.

There might be a lot more to be discovered out there but this woodie is to me a keeper. Not that I'm patronising or trolling, but it's just smack me inside out with them sound sig that I have hoped for in a long time and it came. Once again, thanks to you Ds and everyone here who have contributed your thoughts and impression which leads me to the ownership of my personal gem. Cheers.
