Will a s Schiit Stack improve my setup?

I've been looking into purchasing a Modi/Magni combo but am not a 100% sure how much of an improvement it'll make to my current setup.

I was gifted an amp (Larocco Prii Mk2) long ago so I'm not sure the specs on it. I run it to my comp's sound card (Creative x-fi titanium Fatality) so I suppose it's sacrilege that I am not using a proper Dac.. And the cans I use are hd650s and 600s.

For the most part, everything sounds great, I don't hear an 'electric buzz/static' sound [unless I blast the volume, which I never need to).

However, I can't stop wondering if I'm missing something, so I've been looking into a schiit stack because they're relatively inexpensive to get into.

Would appreciate any input or opinions.

Thanks!

I love my Modi and I hear the Magni is good too.

Isn't that Larocco MkII generally known to be a powerful and nimble portable amp? Even a discrete, Class A/B desktop amp running off a walwart might not be too far off the performance of that one if it is that good. Why not just get the Modi first and see how much it improves over the soundcard?

Thanks for the response guys.

Yeah, I believe I can take the amp on the go, but it has become a stationary device. I don't know how it'll compare to the Magni, I suppose I could buy and return it to just test them out but I don't want to be that person.

Right now the Modi is in my sights however, not sure the outcome if the 'upgrade' will make a huge difference in comparison to an amp upgrade.

I think you'll find a dedicated dac will probably be better than your soundcard's dac.  You won't be subject to the "noise" of your PC and it's associated components.  How you transport into the DAC matters as well; USB for example isn't always the best route (not sure how Modi does in this regard in my own exp - it's probably excellent).

Worst case scenario if you don't like it you can re-sell for not much of a loss.
