Can laptop volume damage headphones?

Hi.

I recently borrowed my Sennheiser HD-25 ll to a friend, and i found out that he likes to use headphones as laptop speakers by plugging them in and turning the volume up to maximum.

I know that an Amp can damage headphones, but can a laptop do the same with max volume?

The laptop is a Lenovo Thinkpad if that has anything to say.

Based on what I've read, unfortunately, yes it can damage the driver over long periods, which is why people burn in headphones at a little louder than normal.
